Taiwan Craft Home - Shi Jen-Yang Huatai Carving Art Center Introduction
Shih Chen-Yang was born in 1946 in Lugang. His father, Shih Kuan-Yu (1919-), is a traditional wooden construction craftsman, originally from Quanzhou, Fujian. Shih Chen-Yang's introduction to woodcarving came from his father, and during his childhood, he often accompanied him to various temple work sites. Through this exposure, he gradually developed an interest in woodcarving. Around the age of 18 (1963), he began to engage seriously in woodworking, with some projects still contracted by his father. His father would often design, while Shih Chen-Yang was responsible for the actual work until he started to independently undertake projects at the age of 34 (1979).
