Taiwan Craft Design Center - Shih Chen Yang Huatai Carving Art Center Introduction
Shi Chenyang was born in 1946 in Lukang. His father, Shi Kunyù (1919-), is a traditional wooden structure carpenter, originally from Quanzhou, Fujian. Shi Chenyang's introduction to wood carving came from his father, and during his childhood, he often accompanied his father to various temple work sites. This exposure gradually sparked his interest in wood carving. Around the age of 18 (1963), he formally began working in woodworking, with several projects still contracted by his father. Typically, designs were created by Shi Kunyù, while Shi Chenyang was responsible for the actual work, until he started independently contracting all projects at the age of 34 (1979).
