Taiwan Craft Research Institute - Shi Zhen-Yang Huatai Sculpture Art Center Introduction
Shi Chenyang was born in Lugang in 1946. His father, Shi Kunyü (1919-), is a master carpenter specializing in traditional architecture, originally from Quanzhou, Fujian. Shi Chenyang was inspired to start wood carving by his father, and during his childhood, he often accompanied his father to various temples for work. Gradually, he developed an interest in wood carving. Around the age of 18 (1963), he began to engage in carpentry work seriously, with some projects still contracted by his father, where Shi Kunyü would design while Shi Chenyang handled the actual work until he began to take on projects independently at the age of 34 (1979).
