Taiwan Craft Center - Shih Chien-Yang Huatai Carving Arts Center Introduction
Shi Zhen-Yang was born in 1946 in Lukang. His father, Shi Kun-Yu (1919-), is a traditional wooden construction craftsman originally from Quanzhou, Fujian. Shi Zhen-Yang's interest in wood carving was inspired by his father, Shi Kun-Yu. During his childhood, he often accompanied his father to various temple work sites, which gradually fostered his interest in wood carving. At around the age of 18 (1963), he began to seriously engage in woodworking. Several projects were still contracted by his father, with designs often created by Shi Kun-Yu and Shi Zhen-Yang responsible for the actual work, until he began to independently take on projects at the age of 34 (1979).
