Taiwan Craft Home - Shi Zhen-yang Huatai Carving Art Center Introduction
Shi Ching-Yang was born in 1946 in Lukang. His father, Shi Kun-Yu (1919-), is a traditional wooden structure master craftsman, originally from Quanzhou, Fujian. Shi Ching-Yang's introduction to wood carving came from his father, and during his childhood, he often accompanied his father to various temple work sites, gradually developing an interest in wood carving. At around the age of 18 (1963), he began to work in woodcraft. Several projects were still contracted by his father, with Shi Kun-Yu often designing while Shi Ching-Yang took responsibility for the actual work until, at the age of 34 (1979), he started to undertake all projects independently.
