Sun Moon Lake Dazhu Lake Trail Introduction
The Dazhuhai Nature Trail, which is only 180 meters long, is the shortest trail along Sun Moon Lake. Entering from the parking lot below the road, you will find a viewpoint nearby. To the right of the viewpoint, a path leads down to the lake's edge, where you can hear the roar of a water outlet below the trail—this is the famous attraction of Sun Moon Lake known as the Sun Moon Spring. In fact, it is the outlet of the Wujie Waterway, which was excavated during the Japanese occupation. The Japanese built an underground tunnel from the Wujie Tribe in Ren'ai Township directly to Sun Moon Lake, allowing water from the upper reaches of the Zhuoshui River to be brought into the lake, serving as a stable water source. The wetland area is crucial for the habitation and breeding of fish and shrimp, due to years of sediment accumulation leading to the growth of reeds. It is also a habitat for herons, night herons, and kingfishers. During the migratory bird season, it becomes a spectacular sight with flocks of geese and ducks.
