Sun Moon Lake Ropeway Station Introduction
The Sun Moon Lake Ropeway connects the Ita Thao and the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, allowing passengers to enjoy the Michelin three-star lake view of Sun Moon Lake surrounded by mountains. This cable car system, designed and manufactured by the Austrian company Dopplemayr, has a route that extends 1,877 meters from the lakeside near Ita Thao to the observation building of the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village. It features 86 cabins, color-coded in red, yellow, blue, and green, representing the sun (日), moon (月), lake (潭), and forest (綠野), respectively. Among them, the green cabin is a crystal cabin with a transparent floor, perfect for thrill-seekers who want to experience the sensation of being 142 meters above ground. During the ride, passengers can overlook the famous scenery of Sun Moon Lake, as well as Fish Pond and the Puli highland basin, and enjoy distant views of the Sun Moon Lake Water Diversion Project's miracle at the entrance of the Sun Moon Spring. The cable car glides over the Smiling Valley, taking you on a 10-minute aerial journey to see the landscapes, geography, and hydrology of Sun Moon Lake, as well as the seasonal changes in weather. Upon reaching the height of 1,000 meters at Mount Bujie, the ride crosses a 786-meter wide valley, where the cable line between the T7 and T8 pillars creates a curved line called "The Smile of the Valley" in the air, providing an unobstructed view—making it the best route to overlook the lake scenery.
