Years Ladder Trail Introduction

Before the construction of the Huan Tan Highway, to visit the Wenwu Temple for worship and sightseeing, one had to first take a boat to the dock below the Wenwu Temple and then climb a steep set of stairs on foot, which was quite challenging. Therefore, these stairs were once called the "Heavenly Ladder". Later, after the Huan Tan Highway was completed, it became much easier for tourists to reach the Wenwu Temple, and gradually the stairs below the temple were forgotten. After renovation by the National Scenic Area Administration, the new stairs feature a 200-meter long slope with 366 steps, symbolizing the 366 days of a leap year. Along the way, resting platforms are set up at the first of each month, and various information related to the 24 solar terms is engraved on both sides of the stairs, allowing visitors to learn about traditional Chinese folk culture while climbing. As a result, these stairs have been dubbed the "Wenwu Temple Year Steps" or "Year Steps Trail". Walking on the Year Steps Trail offers an interesting experience as each step is engraved with a date and the names of famous people born on that day. You can see if your birthday coincides with that of any celebrity! As you walk and search, the 366 steps won't feel so tiring.
