Step Ladders Trail Introduction
Before the completion of the Huantan Highway, visitors had to take a boat to the wharf below the Wenwu Temple, and then climb a steep staircase on foot, which was quite strenuous. This staircase was once referred to as the "Heavenly Ladder." After the completion of the Huantan Highway, it became much easier for tourists to access the Wenwu Temple, leading to the gradual forgetting of the staircase below the temple. After renovations by the National Scenic Area Administration, the staircase now measures approximately 200 meters in length and features 366 steps, symbolizing the 366 days of a leap year. Along the way, rest platforms are installed at the first of each month, and information related to the 24 solar terms is inscribed on both sides of the stairs. This allows visitors to learn about traditional Chinese folk culture while climbing. As a result, the staircase is known as the "Wenwu Temple Year Ladder" or the "Year Ladder Trail." Walking on the Year Ladder Trail offers an interesting experience: each step is engraved with the date and the names of famous figures born on that day, both from China and abroad. You can try to find which celebrity shares your birthday! As you walk and search, the 366 steps won't feel tiring at all.
