Nian Ti Steps Trail Introduction

Before the construction of the Huan-Tan Highway, visitors traveling to Wengwu Temple for worship and sightseeing had to take a boat to the pier below the temple and then hike up a steep flight of stairs, which was quite arduous. This staircase was once known as the "Heavenly Ladder." After the completion of the Huan-Tan Highway, it became much easier for tourists to reach Wengwu Temple, and gradually, the stairs below the temple were forgotten. The stairs were renovated by the National Parks Administration, and the new path, approximately 200 meters long, features 366 steps symbolizing the 366 days of a leap year. Along the way, at every first day of the month, there are rest platforms, and information related to the 24 solar terms is engraved on both sides of the stairs, allowing visitors to learn about traditional Chinese folklore during their ascent. Thus, the staircase is referred to as the "Wengwu Temple Year Steps" or "Year Steps Trail." Walking on the Year Steps Trail offers a fun experience: each step has engraved dates and the names of famous people born on that day. You can see if your birthday coincides with any of the celebrities! As you walk and search, the 366 steps won't feel so tiring.
