Nian Ti Stairway Introduction
Before the construction of the Huan Tan Highway, to visit the Wunwu Temple for worship and sightseeing, one had to first take a boat to the wharf below the Wunwu Temple, and then climb a steep flight of stairs on foot, which was quite arduous. Therefore, this staircase was once known as the "Sky Ladder." Later, after the Huan Tan Highway was completed, tourists found it much easier to access the Wunwu Temple, and gradually the staircase below the temple was forgotten. After renovation by the National Scenic Area Administration, the new staircase, which is about 200 meters long, features 366 steps, symbolizing the 366 days of a leap year. Along the way, there are resting platforms installed at each first day of the month, and some information related to the twenty-four solar terms is also engraved on both sides of the steps, allowing tourists to learn about traditional Chinese folk culture while climbing. Thus, this staircase is referred to as the "Wunwu Temple Year Steps" or "Year Steps Trail." Walking along the Year Steps Trail offers an interesting experience: each step is engraved with a date and the names of famous figures born on that day. You can check to see which famous person shares the same birthday as you! Searching while walking makes the climb up the 366 steps feel less strenuous.
