Nianzi Path Introduction
Before the construction of the Huan Tan Highway, visitors who wanted to pay their respects at the Wunwu Temple had to first take a boat to the pier below the temple and then climb a steep staircase on foot, which was quite arduous. Hence, the staircase was once known as the "Stairway to Heaven." After the completion of the Huan Tan Highway, it became less strenuous for tourists to reach the Wunwu Temple, and gradually the staircase below the temple was forgotten. The staircase, renovated by the National Scenic Area Administration, features a 200-meter-long slope with 366 steps, symbolizing the 366 days of a leap year. Along the way, there are resting platforms installed on the first day of each month, and relevant information about the 24 solar terms is engraved on both sides of the staircase, allowing visitors to learn about traditional Chinese cultural customs while climbing. As a result, the staircase is known as the "Wunwu Temple Year Steps" or "Year Steps Trail." Walking on the Year Steps Trail provides a fun experience: each step is engraved with a date and the names of famous personalities born on that day, so you can see if you share your birthday with any celebrities! As you walk and search, the 366 steps won’t feel so tiring.
