Haikou Desert Introduction
Haikou Desert is located beside Provincial Highway 26 in Haikou Village, Checheng Township, Pingtung County. It is approximately 1,800 meters long, 250 meters wide, and over 10 meters thick, stretching in a northeast-southwest direction. During the arrival of the mountain wind season, the entire desert area resembles the rolling sands of the Sahara Desert, earning it the nickname "Little Sahara Desert." The Haikou Desert is primarily formed due to the unique topography of Pingtung, which causes mountain winds to blow continuously and is influenced by sea winds, resulting in this natural and distinctive landscape.
