Haikou Desert Introduction
Haikou Desert is located along Provincial Highway 26 in Haikou Village, Checheng Township, Pingtung County. It is approximately 1,800 meters long, 250 meters wide, and more than 10 meters thick, extending in a northeast-southwest direction. During the prevailing season of mountain wind, the entire desert area resembles the swirling sands of the Sahara Desert, which is why it's called the "Little Sahara Desert." The Haikou Desert is primarily formed due to the unique topography of Pingtung, which causes mountain winds, coupled with long-term winds and the influence of sea breezes, resulting in this natural and unique landscape.
