Haikou Desert Introduction
Haikou Desert is located next to Provincial Highway 26 in Haikou Village, Checheng Township, Pingtung County. It is approximately 1,800 meters long, 250 meters wide, and over 10 meters thick, oriented in a northeast-southwest direction. During the arrival of the prevailing winds in the evening, the entire desert area resembles the rolling sands of the Sahara Desert, which is why it is dubbed the "Little Sahara Desert." The Haikou Desert is primarily formed due to the unique topography of Pingtung, which causes the evening winds to blow continuously and be influenced by the sea breeze, resulting in this natural and special landscape.
