Haikou Desert Introduction
Haikou Desert is located beside Provincial Highway 26 in Haikou Village, Checheng Township, Pingtung County. It is approximately 1,800 meters long, 250 meters wide, and about 10 meters thick, oriented from northeast to southwest. During the arrival of the prevailing west wind season, the entire desert area resembles the rolling sands of the Sahara Desert, earning it the nickname "Little Sahara Desert." The Haikou Desert is primarily formed due to the unique topography of Pingtung, which causes the prevailing west winds to create this natural and unusual landscape over years of strong winds and marine influences.
