Sichongxi Hot Spring Recreation Area Introduction
Sichongxi Hot Springs is located in the Wenshan Village of Checheng Township. During the Japanese era, it was known as one of the four major hot springs in Taiwan, alongside Beitou, Yangmingshan, and Guanziling. Sichongxi Hot Springs is an odorless and colorless alkaline carbonate spring, with water temperatures maintained year-round between 50°C and 60°C. It not only serves as a drinking source but also has therapeutic benefits. Surrounded by beautiful mountains, it is a famous hot spring and summer retreat in Taiwan. The water source of Sichongxi Hot Springs mainly comes from the foothill spring water of the Central Mountain Range, which is of high-quality mineral water. After being heated by geothermal energy, groundwater dissolves a large amount of limestone to form carbonate spring, which then gushes out along geological fractures to become hot springs. In earlier times, the phenomenon of water gushing out was referred to as "out spring." The history of the development of the hot spring area dates back to the Japanese colonial period. In 1895, cabins and hot tubs were first built along the Sichongxi riverbank, followed by the establishment of bathing facilities. There is also a bath specifically built for the Japanese imperial family, constructed for Prince Naruhito of Japan to honeymoon at this location. The bath is made of cypress and marble and still retains its original appearance, currently open for public use. After enjoying the hot springs, take a stroll in the hot spring park within the area! The park is shaded by green trees and swaying flowers, with lotus flowers blossoming in the pond and tree reflections adding to the tranquil and antique aesthetic, enhanced by the wooden low fence along the pond. Following the circular trail upwards leads to the Butterfly Valley Trail, where colorful butterflies flutter around, and the shadows of the butterflies accompany you along the way. At the top of the park, you can overlook the beautiful scenery surrounding Sichongxi, where the tranquility emanates naturally.
