Sichongxi Hot Spring Recreation Area Introduction

Sichongxi Hot Springs is located in Wenshan Village, Checheng Township. During the Japanese occupation, it was one of the four famous hot springs in Taiwan, alongside Beitou, Yangmingshan, and Guanziling. Sichongxi Hot Springs is a colorless and tasteless alkaline carbonated spring, with water temperatures maintained between 50°C and 60°C year-round. It is not only suitable for drinking but also has therapeutic effects on ailments. Surrounded by picturesque mountains, it is a famous destination for hot springs and summer retreats in Taiwan. The water source of Sichongxi Hot Springs is mainly from the foothills of the Central Mountain Range, characterized by excellent mineral water quality. After underground water is heated by geothermal energy and dissolves a large amount of calcium, it forms a carbonated spring, which then emerges from fractures in the earth's surface. In earlier times, the phenomenon of hot water gushing out was referred to as "the emergence of hot water." The development history of the hot spring area can be traced back to the Japanese colonial period. Starting in 1895, small huts and bath basins were built near the Sichongxi River, followed by the establishment of bathhouses and related facilities. There is also a bathing area exclusively for Japanese royalty, which was specially constructed for Prince Yoshihito, the younger brother of Emperor Showa, during his honeymoon. The bathing area is made of cypress wood and marble, and it has preserved its original appearance to this day, now open for public use for those who have the opportunity to experience it. After finishing your hot spring bathing, be sure to take a stroll in the hot spring park within the area! The park is shaded by green trees and swaying flowers, with lotus flowers in the pond and tree reflections adding to the serene and antique beauty by the wooden low fence. Following the circular trail uphill will connect you to the Butterfly Valley Trail. As the name suggests, colorful butterflies flutter along the path, and you can enjoy picturesque views from the highest point of the park, where the tranquil atmosphere exudes natural beauty surrounding Sichongxi.
