Sichongxi Hot Spring Recreation Area Introduction
Sichongxi Hot Spring is located in Wenshan Village, Chenggong Township. During the Japanese colonial period, it was known as one of the four famous hot springs in Taiwan, alongside Beitou, Yangmingshan, and Guanziling. Sichongxi Hot Spring is an odorless and colorless alkaline carbonated spring, with water temperatures maintained year-round between 50°C and 60°C. It is not only suitable for drinking but also has therapeutic effects, making it a popular destination for hot springs and summer retreats, surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. The water source of Sichongxi Hot Spring mainly comes from the foothills of the Central Mountain Range, featuring high-quality mineral water. The underground water is heated by geothermal energy and, after dissolving a significant amount of lime, forms a carbonated spring, which emerges along geological fractures. In the early days, the phenomenon of water gushing out was referred to as "hot spring emergence." The development of the hot spring area can be traced back to the Japanese occupation period. Starting in 1895, small huts and bathing pools were constructed along the Sichongxi stream, and subsequent bathhouses and related facilities were established. There is also a bath specifically for Japanese imperial family use, built for Prince Yoshihito, the younger brother of Emperor Shōwa, during his honeymoon. This bath was constructed of cypress wood and marble and has retained its original appearance to this day; it is now open for public use, providing an opportunity to experience its history. After enjoying the hot spring, take a stroll in the hot spring park within the area! The park is shaded by lush trees and blooming flowers, and you can see lotus flowers in the pond along with reflections of the trees. The wooden low fences by the pond add a tranquil and charming aesthetic. Walking up along the circular path will lead you to the Butterfly Valley Trail, where, as the name suggests, colorful butterflies flutter along the way. At the highest point of the park, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the beautiful scenery surrounding Sichongxi, where the tranquil atmosphere emanates a sense of natural serenity.
