Sichongxi Hot Spring Recreational Area Introduction
Sijungxi Hot Spring is located in Wenquan Village, Checheng Township. During the Japanese colonial period, it was known as one of Taiwan's four famous hot springs, alongside Beitou, Yangmingshan, and Guanziling. Sijungxi Hot Spring is an alkaline carbonated spring that is colorless and tasteless, with water temperatures maintained year-round between 50°C and 60°C. Its water not only can be consumed but also has therapeutic properties, and the beautiful scenery surrounded by mountains makes it a famous destination for hot spring bathing and summer retreats in Taiwan. The water source of Sijungxi Hot Spring primarily comes from the foothills of the Central Mountain Range, consisting of high-quality mineral water. After being heated by geothermal heat, the groundwater dissolves a significant amount of calcium, forming a carbonated spring, which then emerges following geological fractures. In earlier times, the phenomenon of the spring water emerging was referred to as "chutong" (出湯). The history of the hot spring area's development can be traced back to the Japanese colonial period. Starting in 1895, small cabins and bathing troughs were built along the banks of Sijungxi, and subsequently, bathing facilities and related amenities were established. There is also a bath exclusively for Japanese royalty, built specifically for Prince Naruhito Matsumiya, the younger brother of Emperor Showa, during his honeymoon. The bath is constructed from hinoki wood and marble, and it retains its original appearance to this day, which is now open for public use—visitors are encouraged to experience it. After enjoying the hot spring, take a stroll in the hot spring park within the area! The park features shady trees and swaying flowers, with lotus flowers blooming in the pond and tree reflections adding to the tranquility, enhanced by the wooden low railings by the pond, creating an ancient and elegant beauty. Following the circular trail upwards connects to the Butterfly Valley Trail. As the name suggests, colorful butterflies flutter around along the way, while upon reaching the top of the park, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the beautiful scenery surrounding Sijungxi, where the serene ambience emanates naturally.
