Sichongxi Hot Spring Recreational Area Introduction

Sichongxi Hot Springs is located in Wenquan Village, Checheng Township. During the Japanese colonial period, it was renowned as one of Taiwan's four major hot springs, alongside Beitou, Yangmingshan, and Guanziling. Sichongxi Hot Springs is characterized by its colorless and odorless alkaline carbonate water, with temperatures consistently maintained between 50°C and 60°C throughout the year. This not only makes it suitable for drinking but also provides therapeutic benefits, making it a popular destination for hot spring bathing and summer retreats, all surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. The water source of Sichongxi Hot Springs primarily comes from the foothills of the Central Mountain Range, featuring high-quality mineral water. The groundwater is heated by geothermal energy and forms carbonate springs after dissolving significant amounts of limestone, emerging through geological fractures as hot springs. Initially, this phenomenon of water bursting forth was referred to as "outflowing spring." The development of the hot spring area dates back to the Japanese occupation period. Beginning in 1895, small huts and bathing tubs were built by the banks of Sichongxi, followed by the establishment of bathhouses and related facilities. Notably, there is a bath used exclusively by the Japanese royal family, constructed specifically for Prince Yoshihito, the younger brother of Emperor Showa, during his honeymoon visit. This bathhouse, made of cypress wood and marble, still retains its original appearance and is now open for public use, offering visitors a chance to experience it. After enjoying the hot springs, take a stroll in the Hot Spring Park within the area! The park is shaded by trees and filled with swaying flowers, while the pond showcases blooming lotus flowers and reflections of the surrounding trees, complemented by the wooden railing along the pond’s edge, enhancing its tranquil and antique beauty. Following the circular trail upward leads to the Butterfly Valley Trail, where colorful butterflies flutter along the path. At the top of the park, visitors can enjoy a breathtaking view of the scenic surroundings of Sichongxi, where the serene atmosphere emanates a sense of natural beauty.
