Sijungxi Hot Springs Recreation Area Introduction

Sichongxi Hot Spring is located in Wenquan Village, Checheng Township. During the Japanese rule, it was one of the four major hot springs in Taiwan, alongside Beitou, Yangmingshan, and Guanziling. Sichongxi Hot Spring is an odorless and colorless alkaline carbonate spring, maintaining a water temperature between 50°C and 60°C year-round. It is not only drinkable but also has therapeutic effects, complemented by the beautiful mountainous scenery surrounding it, making it a famous destination for hot spring bathing and summer retreat in Taiwan. The water source of Sichongxi Hot Spring primarily comes from the foothill springs of the Central Mountain Range, resulting in high-quality mineral water. After being heated by geothermal energy deep underground and dissolved in a significant amount of limestone, it forms a carbonate spring that emerges along geological fractures. In the early days, the phenomenon of the spring gushing out was referred to as "chutong." The development history of the hot spring area can be traced back to the Japanese occupation period. In 1895, small cabins and baths were first constructed along the banks of the Sichongxi, and subsequently, bathing facilities related to hot spring soaking were established. There is also a bath exclusively for Japanese royalty, built specifically for Prince Yoshihisa Matsumiya, the younger brother of Emperor Showa of Japan, during his honeymoon. This bath is made of cypress wood and marble and has retained its original appearance to this day, now open for public use, allowing visitors the chance to experience it. After enjoying the hot spring soaking, take a stroll in the hot spring park within the area! The park is shaded by lush trees and swaying flowers, with lotus flowers blooming in the ponds and reflections of trees dancing on the water surface. The low wooden railing by the pond adds a tranquil and antique beauty to the scene. Following the circular walking trail upwards, you'll connect with the Butterfly Valley Trail, where vibrant butterflies flutter and accompany you along the way. At the top of the park, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the beautiful scenery surrounding Sichongxi. The serene atmosphere here exudes a natural beauty that is simply enchanting.
