Siromonkou Hot Spring Recreation Area Introduction
Sichongxi Hot Spring is located in Wenshan Village, Checheng Township. During the Japanese colonial period, it was known as one of Taiwan's four famous hot springs, along with Beitou, Yangmingshan, and Guanziling. Sichongxi Hot Spring is an odorless and colorless alkaline carbonated spring, with water temperatures maintained between 50°C and 60°C year-round. It is not only suitable for drinking but also has therapeutic effects, complemented by the beautiful scenery surrounded by mountains, making it a well-known destination for hot spring bathing and summer retreats in Taiwan. The water source of Sichongxi Hot Spring primarily comes from the foothill springs of the Central Mountain Range, characterized by high-quality mineral water. After underground water is heated by geothermal energy and dissolves a large amount of calcium carbonate, it emerges as a hot spring through geological fractures. In the early days, the phenomenon of water surfacing was referred to as "出湯" (chutáng). The development history of the hot spring area can be traced back to the Japanese ruling period. In 1895, small cabins and bathing tubs were constructed by the banks of the Sichongxi River, followed by the establishment of bathhouses and related facilities. There is also a bath specifically reserved for Japanese royal family members, built for Prince Yoshihito, the younger brother of Emperor Showa, during his honeymoon. This bath is made of cypress wood and marble, and it still retains its original appearance, now open for public use, offering a chance to experience its historical charm. After bathing, take a stroll in the hot spring park within the area! The park is shaded by trees and adorned with flowers swaying, with lotus flowers blooming in the pond and reflections of trees casting shadows. The wooden railings by the pond add to the serene and classic beauty. Walking along the circular trail will lead you to the Butterfly Valley Trail, where colorful butterflies flutter along the path. At the highest point of the park, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the beautiful scenery surrounding Sichongxi, where the tranquil atmosphere feels so natural and harmonious.
