Xinliang Artificial Wetland Introduction
The New Liang Drainage Artificial Wetland, located in Luye Township, Taitung County, is an emerging scenic waterfront park in the Luye area. To address the sewage problems of pig farms and residences in the villages of Ruilong and Ruiyuan, the county government constructed the "New Liang Drainage Artificial Wetland" at the confluence of Beinan River and LuLiao River. The park is divided into two main areas, A and B, which include a "Dense Planting Area," "Open Water Area A," "Open Water Area B," and "Artificial Wetland." These areas are planted with giant water lilies, water caltrops, and lotus, utilizing the cyclical interactions of air, plants, soil, and microorganisms to naturally filter and purify the wastewater from upstream before it is discharged into the Beinan River. This not only solves the wastewater issue but also creates an ecological landscape with environmental education functions. The construction of the park employed driftwood from local wind disasters as the foundation material for the bank protection, reducing the use of concrete to achieve energy conservation and carbon reduction goals, while providing multiple functions including ecological demonstration, conservation benefits, educational promotion, environmental beautification, and recreation. The wetland is now home to various wild bird species, amphibians, and fish, along with well-equipped and improved waterfront park facilities. Combined with the nearby Lijibohan Mudstone Landscape in Er Cengping Moon World, the unique terrain and rich ecological scenery around the artificial wetland have become a new tourist attraction for locals and visitors.
