Xinliang Constructed Wetland Introduction
The Xinliang Drainage Artificial Wetland, located in the Luye Township of Taitung County, is an emerging recreational park that enhances the area's water access. To address the wastewater issues of pig farms and residences in the Ruilong and Ruiyuan villages, the county government constructed the "Xinliang Drainage Artificial Wetland" at the confluence of the Beinan River and the Luliao River. The park is divided into two main sections: Area A and Area B, which include the "Dense Planting Area," "Open Water Surface Area A," "Open Water Surface Area B," and "Artificial Wetland." These areas are planted with water lilies, water caltrop, and other aquatic plants, which naturally filter and purify wastewater from upstream areas through the circulation of air, plants, soil, and microorganisms before discharging it into the Beinan River. This initiative not only resolves wastewater issues but also creates an ecological landscape with educational functions for environmental protection. The park’s construction utilized driftwood from local wind disasters as a foundation material for the banks, reducing cement use to achieve energy conservation and carbon reduction goals. It serves multiple functions, including ecological display, conservation benefits, educational promotion, environmental beautification, and recreational opportunities. The wetland is now home to various wild birds, amphibians, and aquatic species, and the well-equipped hydrophilic park, along with the nearby Liji Mudstone landscape in the Ertsun Plain, has made the artificial wetland's unique terrain and rich ecological scenery a new attraction for locals and tourists alike.
