Xinliang Constructed Wetland Introduction
The Xinliang Drainage Artificial Wetland, located in Lüye Township, Taitung County, is a newly developed recreational park that promotes water accessibility in the Lüye area. To address the wastewater issues from pig farms and residences in the villages of Ruilong and Ruiyuan, the county government constructed the "Xinliang Drainage Artificial Wetland" at the confluence of the Beinan River and the Luliao River. The park is divided into two main areas, A and B, which include the "Dense Planting Area," "Open Water Area A," "Open Water Area B," and "Artificial Wetland." Various aquatic plants such as Victoria amazonica (giant water lily), water convolvulus, and water lilies are cultivated in these zones. Through the natural processes involving air, plants, soil, and microorganisms, the wastewater from upstream is filtered and purified before being discharged into the Beinan River. This initiative not only addresses wastewater concerns but also creates an ecological landscape with environmental education benefits. In the construction of the park, driftwood from local wind disasters was utilized as the foundational material for riverbanks, reducing the use of cement to achieve energy-saving and carbon-reduction goals. The wetland serves multiple functions, including ecological display, conservation benefits, educational promotion, environmental beautification, and recreational activities. The wetland is now home to various species of wild birds, amphibians, and shellfish, and with the well-equipped hydrophilic park facilities and the nearby unique landscape of the Liji Claystone formation in Ershengping Moon World, the artificial wetland's distinctive terrain and rich ecological scenery have become a new attraction for locals and tourists.
