Xinjing Artificial Wetland Introduction
The Xinliang Drainage Artificial Wetland located in Luye Township, Taitung County, is an emerging waterfront park in the Luye area. To address the wastewater issues from pig farmers and residences in the villages of Ruilong and Ruiyuan, the county government constructed the "Xinliang Drainage Artificial Wetland" at the confluence of the Beinan River and the Luliao River. The park is divided into two main areas, A and B, with each area designated as the "Dense Planting Area," "Open Water Area A," "Open Water Area B," and "Artificial Wetland." Various aquatic plants such as Victoria amazonica, water hyacinth, and lilies are planted, utilizing the natural processes involving air, plants, soil, and microorganisms to filter and purify wastewater from upstream areas before it is discharged into the Beinan River. This not only solves wastewater problems but also creates an ecological landscape with environmental education functions. The construction of the park used driftwood from local disaster recovery as foundational material for riverbank protection, reducing cement usage to achieve energy-saving and carbon-reduction goals. It serves multiple functions including ecological display, conservation benefits, educational promotion, environmental beautification, and leisure activities. The wetland is already home to various species of wild birds, amphibians, and shellfish, along with well-organized waterfront park facilities and the nearby Liji Mudstone landscape of Ertsunping Moon World. The unique terrain and rich ecological scenery surrounding the artificial wetland have become a new tourist attraction for both locals and visitors.
