Red Head Rock (like a canal) Introduction
Lanyu has a rich natural ecology, and its unique geology, combined with marine erosion and weathering, has led to many variably shaped and legend-filled rock formations around the island. Among them, Red Head Rock, resembling the side profile of a human head, appears like a red head resting on the sea when the sunset casts a reddish glow. From the side of the cliff, it also resembles the "Red Man," a reference to the indigenous peoples, which is how Lanyu was historically named as Red Head Island. The Tao people (Yami people) refer to this rock as Ji-yakmeiso Rsorian, but it is also known as ji-pineiyaow, meaning the man-made tunnel that runs through the island’s highway.
