Wang'an Huazhai Introduction

Wang-an Huazhai Settlement is one of the most well-preserved traditional settlements in the Penghu area. Over 300 years ago, Han Chinese immigrants settled here, and the surrounding topography is encircled by hills, resembling petals surrounding the heart of a flower. The residents cultivated land and built houses near the heart of the flower (at the top of Shan-Zaiwei), thus named "Huazhai." After Taiwan's retrocession, it was renamed Zhongsha Village due to its geographical location at the center of the four villages in Wang-an Township. Among the ancient houses in Huazhai, the most famous is the "Zeng Family Ancestral House," built with red bricks and featuring "Zeng-style" windows. This magnificent ancestral house is the most well-preserved in the settlement, unlike most ancient houses in Penghu which are built with coral rocks. The Zeng Family Ancestral House is constructed with basalt, and its front windows are styled like scrolls, exuding a scholarly atmosphere. Due to the neglect of the old house over the years, descendants of the Zeng family pooled their resources for repairs, and it has now become a shared spiritual home and symbol for descendants of the Zeng family.
