Wang-an Township Introduction
Wang'an Island is the fourth largest island in the Penghu archipelago, located in the southern waters of Penghu County, about 18 nautical miles away from the main island of Penghu. The total area of Wang'an is approximately 13.7824 square kilometers, and based on statistics from the Penghu County Civil Affairs Bureau in August 2008, the population on the island is 1,561. The terrain of Wang'an is relatively flat, with many curved coastlines, and the surrounding waters are mostly rocky reefs. Geographically, Wang'an is located between east longitude 119 degrees 18-59 minutes and north latitude 23 degrees 12-23 minutes, and there are about 40 other small islands and reefs nearby. Originally named "Bahzhao," Wang'an is situated in the southern waters of Magong, between the main island of Penghu and Qimei Island, approximately 18 nautical miles from Magong and about 11 nautical miles from Qimei. The travel time to reach the island is about 90 minutes, and the terrain is lower in the south and higher in the north, with well-developed coastal erosion platforms. Tanmen Harbor serves as the gateway to Wang'an, offering dining options, a tourist service center, bus and scooter rental services, and transportation boats to Jiankun Island. Attractions on the island include the Mandarin Duck Cave, Flower House, and Tiantai Mountain, among others. Huazhai Village has been renamed Zhongshe Village and is the largest historic settlement in Penghu, with a history of 300 years, making it a must-visit site on Wang'an Island.
