Wangan Township Introduction
Wang'an Island is the fourth largest island in the Penghu archipelago, located in the waters south of Penghu County, approximately 18 nautical miles away from the main island of Penghu. The total area of Wang'an is about 13.7824 square kilometers, with a population of 1,561 according to the statistics from the Penghu County Civil Affairs Bureau in August 2008. The terrain of Wang'an is relatively flat, with many curving coastal lines, and the nearby waters mostly consist of reefs. Geographically, Wang'an is situated between 119 degrees 18–59 minutes east and 23 degrees 12–23 minutes north, with around 40 other small islands and reefs nearby. Wang'an Island was originally named "Bazha," situated in the waters south of Magong, between the main island of Penghu and Qimei Island, approximately 18 nautical miles from Magong and about 11 nautical miles from Qimei. The transportation journey takes about 90 minutes. The topography of the island is lower in the south and higher in the north, with well-developed sea erosion platforms surrounding it. Tanmen Port serves as the gateway to Wang'an, offering dining, tourist service centers, public bus and scooter rental services, as well as transportation boats to Jianlong Island. Attractions on the island include the Mandarin Duck Cave, Huazhai, and Tianbaisan. Huazhai Village has been renamed Zhongsha Village and is the largest cluster of ancient houses in Penghu, with a history of 300 years, making it a must-visit spot on Wang'an Island.
