Wang-an Township Introduction
Wang'an Island is the fourth largest island in the Penghu archipelago, located in the waters south of Penghu County, approximately 18 nautical miles away from the main island of Penghu. The total area of Wang'an is about 13.7824 square kilometers, and according to statistics from the Penghu County Civil Affairs Bureau in August 2008, the population on the island is 1,561. Wang'an has a relatively flat terrain with a winding coastline, and most of the surrounding waters are filled with reefs. The geographical coordinates of Wang'an are approximately between 119°18'59" E and 23°12'23" N, and there are 40 other large and small islands and reefs nearby. Wang'an Island was originally named "Bazhào," located in the waters south of Magong, situated between the main island of Penghu and Qimei Island, about 18 nautical miles from Magong and about 11 nautical miles from Qimei, with a travel time of approximately 90 minutes. The terrain of the island is lower in the south and higher in the north, surrounded by well-developed marine erosion platforms. Tanmen Harbor serves as the gateway to Wang'an, offering dining, a tourist service center, bus and scooter rental services, as well as ferry transportation to Jiangjun Island. Attractions on the island include the Mandarin Duck Cave, Huazhai, and Tiantai Mountain, among others. Huazhai Village has been renamed Zhongsha Village and is the largest historical settlement in Penghu, with a history of 300 years, making it a must-visit destination on Wang'an Island.
