Wangan Township Introduction
Wang'an Island is the fourth largest island in the Penghu Archipelago, located in the southern waters of Penghu County, about 18 nautical miles away from the main island of Penghu. The total area of Wang'an is approximately 13.7824 square kilometers, and according to statistics from the Penghu County Civil Affairs Bureau in August 2008, the island's population was 1,561 people. Wang'an has a relatively flat terrain, with a winding coastline and most of the surrounding waters consisting of reefs. Geographically, Wang'an is situated between longitudes 119°18'59" E to 119°12'23" E and latitudes 23°12' N to 23°23' N, and there are approximately 40 islands and reefs nearby. Wang'an Island was originally named "Bazhào," located in the southern waters of Magong, situated between the main island of Penghu and Qimei Island, approximately 18 nautical miles from Magong Island and 11 nautical miles from Qimei Island. The travel time to the island is about 90 minutes. The topography of the island is lower in the south and higher in the north, with well-developed coastal erosion platforms surrounding it. Tanmen Harbor serves as the gateway to Wang'an, providing dining options, tourist service centers, bus and scooter rental services, as well as ferry services to Jiangjun Island. Attractions on the island include the Mandarin Duck Cave, Huazhai, and Tiantai Mountain, among others. Huazhai Village has been renamed Zhongsha Village, and it is the most significant ancient residence settlement in Penghu, with a history of 300 years, making it a must-visit site on Wang'an Island.
