Wang-an Township Introduction
Wang'an Island is the fourth largest island in the Penghu archipelago, located in the sea south of Penghu County, approximately 18 nautical miles away from the main island of Penghu. The total area of Wang'an is about 13.7824 square kilometers, and according to statistics from the Penghu County Civil Affairs Bureau in August 2008, the population on the island is 1,561. Wang'an has relatively flat terrain with a winding coastline, and the surrounding waters mostly consist of reefs. The geographical location of Wang'an is between 119 degrees 18 to 59 minutes East and 23 degrees 12 to 23 minutes North, with around 40 small islands and reefs nearby. Wang'an Island was originally named "Bazhā," located in the southern sea of Magong, situated between the main island of Penghu and Qimei Island, approximately 18 nautical miles from Magong and 11 nautical miles from Qimei. The transportation to the island takes about 90 minutes. The island's terrain is lower in the south and higher in the north, with well-developed sea-eroded platforms around. Tanmen Harbor serves as the gateway to Wang'an, featuring dining options, a tourist service center, bus and scooter rental services, and transportation boats to Jianguang Island. Attractions on the island include the Mandarin Duck Cave, Huazhai, and Tiantai Mountain, among others. Huazhai Village has been renamed Zhongsha Village, which is the largest historical settlement in Penghu, with a history of 300 years and is a must-visit site on Wang'an Island.
