Shakong Historical Houses Cluster Introduction
Shagang Ancient Houses are located in the northwest of Huxi Township, where residents are divided into four groups (including Ding She, Xia She, Tudi Gong, and Shui Ku). The farmlands are mostly concentrated in the southeast of the village. The eastern, northern, and northwestern sides face the sea, and the intertidal zone is very vast, making it an ideal area for villagers to go out to sea for operations. Among the three major islands of Penghu, Shagang is unique as it consists of three settlements merged into one administrative village: Shagang (which includes Ding She and Xia She, with Ding She also known as Shagangtou), Tudi Gong Qian, and Shui Ku. This area is characterized by a cluster of simple coral rock houses and is the village with the most ancestral halls, also the only village in Huxi Township without a traditional Tiangou organization. The ancient houses of Shagang settlement are distinctive, especially the Chen residence at No. 56 Shagang Village, which is built in a four-section layout and primarily uses coral stone as construction material, representing traditional Penghu courtyard architecture. The gate tower is uniquely designed in the form of Sanxian Lou, which is a feature of official residences. The neighboring residences at No. 54 and No. 55, despite having undergone some changes in form, still unite with No. 56, allowing one to imagine the scale of the past. Geographically, it is located at the intersection of Dingwan Village and Zhongxi Village in Huxi Township, adjacent to Dingwan in the southwest, neighboring Dongshi Village to the south, and facing the sea to the east and north, respectively looking toward Xixi, Hongluo Village, and the northern Yuanbei Village in Baisha Township. 【Recommended stay time】1 hour
