Shagang Historical Residence Group Introduction
Shagang Old Houses are located in the northwestern part of Huxi Township. The residents are divided into four groups (including Ding She, Xia She, Tudi Gong, and Shui Ku), and the farmland is concentrated in the southeastern part of the village. To the east, north, and northwest, it faces the sea, with a very expansive intertidal zone, making it an ideal space for villagers to venture out to sea. Among the three major islands in Penghu, Shagang is unique as it is composed of three settlements within a single administrative village: Shagang (including Ding She and Xia She, where Ding She is also known as Shagangtou), Tudi Gongqian, and Shui Ku. The distinctive feature here is the abundance of simple coral stone houses, and it is the village with the most ancestral halls, as well as the only village in Huxi Township without a traditional organization. The traditional houses in Shagang settlement are particularly unique, with the house at No. 56 in Shagang Village being a notable example. It is characterized by a four-sided layout and primarily uses coral stone as its main building material, reflecting traditional Penghu courtyard architecture. The gate tower takes the form of a Three Immortals Pavilion, which is a distinctive characteristic of official residences. The adjacent houses at No. 54 and No. 55, although they have undergone changes in form, still merge seamlessly with No. 56, allowing one to imagine the scale of the past. Geographically, it is located at the intersection of Dingwan Village and Zhongxi Village in Huxi Township, bordering Dingwan to the southwest, and adjacent to Dongshi Village to the south. To the east and north, it faces the sea, looking across to Xixi, Hongluo Village, and the northern part of Baisha Township's Yuanbei Village. [Recommended stay time] 1 hour
