Shakeng Ancient Houses Group Introduction
Shagang Old Houses are located in the northwest of Huxi Township, with residents divided into four groups (including Dingshe, Xiashe, Tudi Gong, and Shakou). The farmland is mainly concentrated in the southeast of the village. The east, north, and northwest face the sea, and the intertidal zone is very wide, making it an ideal space for villagers to go out to sea for operations. Among the three main islands of Penghu, Shagang is unique, comprised of three settlements forming one administrative village: Shagang (including Dingshe and Xiashe, with Dingshe also known as Shagangtou), Tudi Gong Qian, and Shakou. The area is characterized by its rustic cluster of coral stone houses, being the village with the most ancestral halls, and it is also the only village in Huxi Township without a head organization. The old houses in Shagang village are distinctive, particularly the Chen residence at No. 56 Shagang Village, which features a unique layout of four stone heads, using coral stone as the main building material, embodying the traditional courtyard architecture of Penghu. The gate tower takes on the form of a Sanxian building, which is a distinguishing feature of an official residence. The adjacent residences at No. 54 and No. 55, although structurally modified, are still united with No. 56 and give an idea of the past scale. The geographical location is at the intersection of Dingwan Village and Zhongxi Village in Huxi Township, neighboring Dingwan to the southwest, Dongshi Village to the south, and facing the sea to the east and north, overlooking Xixi, Hongluo Village, and the northern Yuanbei Village in Baisha Township. 【Recommended time to stay】1 hour
