Shagang Old House Cluster Introduction
Shagang Ancient House is located in the northwest of Luksi Township, with residents divided into four groups (including Ding She, Xia She, Tudi Gong, and Shui Kuo), and farmlands are concentrated in the southeast of the village. To the east, north, and northwest, it faces the sea, where the intertidal zone is very vast, making it an ideal space for villagers to go out to sea. Among the three main islands of Penghu, Shagang is unique as it consists of three settlements forming one administrative village: Shagang (including Ding She and Xia She, with Ding She also known as Shagang Tou), Tudi Gong Qian, and Shui Kuo. The defining feature here is the cluster of simple laterite houses, with the most ancestral halls, and it is also the only village in Luksi Township without a head organization. The ancient houses of Shagang settlement are distinctive, particularly Chen's residence No. 56 in Shagang village, which features a structure with four courtyard entrances, primarily using laterite as building material, representing traditional Penghu compound architecture. The gate tower is distinctively designed in the style of Sanxian Tower, a characteristic of official residences. The neighboring houses No. 54 and No. 55, although altered in form, still connect with No. 56 and allow one to imagine the scale of the past. Geographically, it intersects with Dingwan Village and Zhongxi Village in Luksi Township, adjacent to Dingwan in the southwest and Dongshi Village in the south, facing the sea to the east and north, overlooking Xixi, Hongluo Village, and Yuanshabe Village in the north.
