Shagang Historic Houses Cluster Introduction
Shagang Ancient House is located in the northwest of Hsihsi Township, where the residents are divided into four groups (including Ding She, Xia She, Tudi Gong, and Shui Ku). The farmland is concentrated in the southeastern part of the village. The eastern, northern, and northwestern sides face the sea, with a very wide intertidal zone, making it an ideal space for villagers to go out to sea. Among the three major islands of Penghu, Shagang is unique, consisting of three settlements forming one administrative village: Shagang (including Ding She and Xia She, with Ding She also known as Shagangtou), Tudi Gongqian, and Shui Ku. Its characteristic is the cluster of simple coral stone houses, being the village with the most ancestral halls, and it is also the only village in Hsihsi Township without a Gantou organization. The ancient houses in Shagang settlement are distinctive, particularly House No. 56 in Shagang Village, which features a layout with four "Jujiao" roofs and is primarily constructed with coral stone, representing traditional Penghu courtyard architecture. The gate tower, styled as "Sanjian Tower," is quite distinctive and characteristic of official residences. The adjacent Houses No. 54 and 55, although structurally altered, still connect with House No. 56, allowing one to imagine the scale of the past. Its geographical location is at the intersection of Dingwan Village and Zhongxi Village in Hsihsi Township, neighboring Dingwan to the southwest, Dongshi Village to the south, and facing the sea to the east and north, across from Xixi, Hongluo Village, and the northern Yuanbei Village in Baisha Township. 【Recommended stay duration】1 hour
