Shakeng Old House Complex Introduction
Shagang Old House is located in the northwest of Huxi Township, with residents divided into four groups (including Ding She, Xia She, Tudi Gong, and Shui Ku). The farmland is concentrated in the southeastern part of the village. The east, north, and northwest face the sea, with a vast intertidal zone, making it an ideal space for villagers to go out to sea for operations. Among the three major islands of Penghu, Shagang is unique, composed of three settlements forming one administrative village: Shagang (including Ding She and Xia She, with Ding She also known as Shagang Tou), Tudi Gong Qian, and Shui Ku. The characteristic of this place is the numerous traditional coral stone houses, making it the village with the most ancestral halls, and it is also the only village in Huxi Township without a militia organization. The ancient houses in the Shagang settlement are distinctive, particularly the Chen residence at No. 56 in Shagang Village, which features a unique four-lane layout and is primarily constructed from coral stones, representing traditional courtyard architecture in Penghu. The gatehouse, designed in the form of a Sanxian Tower, is a distinctive characteristic of official residences. The adjacent residences at No. 54 and No. 55, although modified in form, still connect with No. 56, allowing an imagination of the scale of the past. Geographically, it is located at the intersection of Dingwan Village and Zhongxi Village in Huxi Township, bordering Dingwan to the southwest, neighboring Dongshi Village to the south, and facing the sea to the east and north, opposite to Xixi, Hongluo Village, and Beisha Township's Yuanbei Village. 【Recommended Stay Time】1 hour.
