Xu Family Village and Painted Murals Introduction
Xùjiā Village is a traditional gathering place in Penghu known for its unique "Falling Four Jian" courtyard style, named after its residents from the Xu family clan. The village is characterized by tranquil traditional siheyuan (courtyard houses), featuring several historical structures known as "Xu Family Ancient Houses." These are located along Provincial Highway 203 in Huxi Township, preserving earlier architectural traditions such as Zisun Lane, Láng shíqiáng, and Niúchēdào. Additionally, there is Bagua Lane, which resembles a defense fortification. The villagers work together to maintain the village's rustic charm, allowing visitors to see red ox carts and gray stone walls. In recent years, colorful murals have been painted on the Láng shíqiáng, creating a striking contrast with the traditional architecture of Xùjiā Village. There are many beautiful painted walls here, with each mural resembling a postcard, all showcasing the essence of Penghu. Walking through the streets of Xùjiā Village, one can find various styles and themes of painted walls, with artists expanding their work since 2013 and continually maintaining and updating them to keep the murals fresh and clean. Unlike typical tourist spots, a leisurely stroll in Xùjiā Village allows one to experience the traditional simplicity and tranquility. Xùjiā Village is the closest settlement to Magong City where one can observe the Láng shí ancient houses up close, and it boasts a vast coastline with shallow waters and expansive intertidal zones. There is also a pavilion in front of the community activity center. Visitors can walk through the ancient house alleyways, enjoying the artistic atmosphere that blends the old and the new. 【Recommended stay duration】2 hours.
