Zhongtun Wind Turbines Introduction
Zhongtun, an ancient place name, was originally called Zhongdun due to its location between Penghu Main Island and Bai Sha Island, forming a hill. After the recovery of Taiwan, it was renamed Zhongtun based on its phonetic sound. Subsequently, the Yong'an Bridge and the Chiang Ching-kuo Bridge were built, connecting Bai Sha to the north and Penghu Main Island to the south. Eventually, with the construction of cross-sea bridges, the four townships of Magong, Hsiu, Bai Sha, and Si Yan were linked together. While traveling along the North Loop Tourist Route, passing over the Chiang Ching-kuo Bridge, one can find eight white wind turbines shining under the sky. The northeast monsoon in winter and the southeast wind in summer sweep across the blades of the wind turbines, resulting in a powerful sound. To green the Penghu region, efforts have been made to replace power supply with natural resources. The Taiwan Power Company has set up eight wind power stations in Penghu, making it the first region in Taiwan to use wind power. This electricity also supplies 10% of Penghu County’s electricity needs, showcasing significant environmental benefits. The wind farm in Zhongtun Village, Bai Sha Township, is Taiwan's second wind power plant and the third generation wind turbine in Penghu, consisting of four six-kilowatt white wind turbines. As wind conditions change, the angle of the blades can also be adjusted, allowing the rotation speed to adapt to power generation demands. At the entrance, there is a pavilion and a seaside park where visitors can take photos with the giant wind turbines in sight. This area is currently planned to be developed into a wind turbine park, becoming a famous tourist attraction and new landmark in Bai Sha Township. The North Loop Tour allows visitors to get off and take pictures with these giant wind turbines, which are equipped with night lighting. In the evening, beams of light shine upward from the base of the turbines, illuminating the rotating wind turbines in bright white. Next to it is the Zhongtun Green Energy Park in Bai Sha, featuring corridors, pavilions, observation platforms, and more. 【Recommended stay time】 1 hour.
