Zhongtun Wind Turbine Introduction
Zhongtun, an ancient geographic name, was originally called Zhongdun due to its location between Penghu Main Island and Baisha Island, forming a soil mound, and was later renamed Zhongtun after the end of Japanese rule. The Yong'an Bridge and Zhongzheng Bridge were then built, connecting Baisha to the north and Penghu Main Island to the south. Subsequently, the construction of cross-sea bridges linked Magong, Huxi, Baisha, and Xiyu into one network. Traveling on the North Circle tourism route, one will see eight white wind turbines shining in the sky after crossing the Zhongzheng Bridge. The northeast monsoon in winter and the southeast wind in summer sweep over the blades, producing a magnificent whistling sound. To promote greening in Penghu, Taiwan Power Company has established eight wind power stations in this area abundant in wind resources, making it the first region in Taiwan to utilize wind power for electricity generation, supplying 10% of Penghu County’s electricity consumption, which has considerable environmental benefits. The wind power plant in Zhongtun Village, Baisha Township, is Taiwan's second wind power plant and the third generation of wind turbines in Penghu, consisting of four 6 kW white wind turbine generators. The angle of the blades can adjust with changes in wind force, allowing the rotation speed to be modified according to power generation needs. At the entrance, there is a pavilion and a seaside park where one can take photos with the giant wind turbines. This area has been planned to become a Wind Turbine Park, becoming a famous tourist attraction and new landmark in Baisha Township. Visitors can stop on the North Circle route to take pictures with these giant turbines, which are equipped with night lighting; beams of light shine up from the bases of the turbines at night, illuminating the rotating turbines to shine even more brightly. Nearby is the Zhongtun Green Energy Park, featuring corridors, pavilions, and observation platforms. [Suggested stay time] 1 hour.
