Wai'an Village, Wai'an Fishing Port Introduction
Waian Village is located in the southern part of Xiyu Township, bordering Neian Village to the north, and has a natural barrier that makes it less susceptible to the northeast monsoon. Waian Village is the most populous community in Xiyu Township; due to its small inland area, the houses are built along the coast, creating a magnificent and distinctive appearance. The village's topography makes it very suitable for developing fisheries, with a large fishing port and many fishing boats (the number of fishing boats in the village ranks first in Penghu), making fishing the main livelihood for most residents. Waian Fishing Port is classified as a second-class fishing port and is close to the strait migratory fishing grounds, with strong fishing activities. In 2011, it was selected as one of the "Top 10 Charming Fishing Ports" by the Fisheries Agency in the cultural category. The port has a completely different style and imagery during the day and night. The residents predominantly practice Taoism, and the Weng Wang Temple serves as the faith center for Waian Village, housing the deity Weng Fu Wang Ye, as well as other gods, including the five gods of the Heavenly Monitoring: Zheng, Hu, Jiang, Ke, and Li. Nearby is the Buddhist Ci Hang Temple, which worships Guanyin Buddha. Each year, Waian Village hosts events such as the Lantern Festival Fisherman's Fire Festival, riddle guessing night parties, and blessed procession activities, where boats gather at Waian Fishing Port at auspicious times.
