Wai'an Village, Wai'an Fishing Port Introduction
Wai'an Village is located in the southern part of West Island Township, bordered to the north by Nei'an Village, providing a natural barrier that makes it less susceptible to northeastern monsoon winds. Wai'an Village is the most populated community in West Island Township; due to its small land area, the houses are built in accordance with the terrain by the sea, giving it a grand and exquisite appearance that is quite distinctive. Due to the geographical features, Wai'an Village is very suitable for fishery development, as it has a large fishing port and many fishing boats (the number of fishing boats in the village ranks first in Penghu), making fishery the primary livelihood for most residents. Wai'an Fishing Port is a Type II fishing port, close to the strait’s migratory fishing grounds, and is active in fishing activities. In 2011, it was shortlisted among the "Top 10 Charming Fishing Ports" by the Fisheries Agency in the cultural essence category. During the day and night, it presents completely different styles and port imagery. Most residents here practice Taoism, and the Wen Wang Temple serves as the spiritual center of Wai'an Village, enshrining Wang Ye of the Wen Family, alongside other deities including the Five Lords of Heaven Patrol: Zheng, Hu, Jiang, Ke, and Li. There is also Cihang Temple, dedicated to the Buddha Guanyin. Every year, Wai'an Village holds the Lantern Festival Fishing Fire Festival activities, lantern riddle guessing parties, and blessing processions. At night, boats gather at Wai'an Fishing Port; as the auspicious hour approaches, the fishing lights illuminate the night sky of Wai'an as brightly as day with countless flickering lights, attracting numerous tourists to participate in the festivities annually. 【Suggested stay time】 1 hour
