Wai'an Village, Wai'an Fishing Port Introduction
Wai'an Village is located in the southern part of Xiyu Township, bordered to the north by Neian Village, and features a natural barrier that makes it less susceptible to the northeast monsoon. Wai'an Village is the most populous community in Xiyu Township; due to its small inland area, the houses are built along the coast, creating a grand and unique appearance. The village's terrain is highly suitable for developing fishing, as it has a large fishing port and many fishing boats (the number of fishing boats in the village is the highest in Penghu). Fishing has become the main livelihood for most residents. Wai'an Fishing Port belongs to the second category of fishing ports and is close to fishing grounds in the strait, making fishing activities strong. In 2011, it was nominated as one of the "Top 10 Charming Fishing Ports" in the cultural category by the Fisheries Agency. The day and night portray entirely different styles and images of the harbor. The residents largely follow Taoism, with the Wenchang Temple being the faith center of Wai'an Village, enshrining Lord Wenfu, along with other deities such as the five noble spirits of the heavenly patrol: Zheng, Hu, Jiang, Ke, and Li. Nearby is the Buddhist Ci-Hang Temple, which is dedicated to Guanyin Buddha. Each year, Wai'an Village holds events for the Lantern Festival, including fishing fire festivities, riddle guessing evenings, and pilgrimage activities. At night, boats gather at Wai'an Fishing Port, and when the auspicious time arrives, the fishing lights illuminate the night sky, brightening it like daylight.
