Qimei Double Heart Stone Weir Introduction
The stone fish traps, known as "shihus," are a unique cultural landscape in Penghu and a testament to the wisdom of its ancestors. The early inhabitants built these fishing walls from basalt and coral reefs in the intertidal zone, taking advantage of the tidal variation to trap fish within the stone walls. This traditional fishing method illustrates the interdependence of the Penghu people and the sea. The Double Heart Stone Trap, named for its two heart-shaped stone traps, is located in Donghu Village of Qimei Township, and is also referred to as "Dingxi Trap." The Double Heart Stone Trap is composed of two stone traps that form a heart shape; when viewed from above, they connect at both ends, creating a romantic image of two linked hearts. It is one of the most well-preserved stone traps in the Penghu area. To see the complete heart shape of the Double Heart Stone Trap, it is recommended to check the daily low tide times beforehand. [Suggested stay time] 0.5 hours.
