Hujing Xishan Park Introduction
Hujing Island is the seventh largest island in the Penghu archipelago, located 7 nautical miles from Magong City. The island is divided into two mountains, East and West Mountain, with villages situated between them. The East Mountain is currently a military control zone and is not open to the public, while the West Mountain has been converted into a park and recreational area after the military withdrew. There is only one main road on West Mountain; as you ascend along this road, you can see the hexagonal basalt columns on the left. Continuing up the road leads to Xishan Park. In Xishan Park, there is a giant statue of Guanyin made of white marble and eighteen arhats. This Guanyin statue was sculpted by a master from mainland China at the request of a villager who resides in Hong Kong, Chen Ying-jie, and was donated to his long-lost hometown in 1994. The statue is quite vivid in its facial expression and draping clothing. At that time, due to the inability to transport the statue directly by boat, it was divided into three parts and reassembled in Hujing, leaving two noticeable seams on its surface. At this Guanyin statue in Xishan Park, when the weather is good and visibility is clear, it is possible to view nearby islands. Beyond that, there are also underground bunkers and the Tropic of Cancer Monument on Hujing West Mountain. [Recommended stay time] 0.5 hours; since the stay in Hujing is brief, it is suggested to stay overnight in a local guesthouse.
