Hujing West Mountain Park Introduction
Hujing Island is the seventh largest island in the Penghu archipelago, located 7 nautical miles from Magong City. The island is divided into two mountains, East and West Mountain, with the village positioned between them. East Mountain is currently a military restricted area and is not open to the public, while West Mountain has been transformed into a park and recreational area after the withdrawal of the National Army. There is only one main road on West Mountain, and as you walk along it, the basalt columns can be seen on the left side. Continuing along this path leads to West Mountain Park, where there is a large statue of Guanyin made of white marble and eighteen arhats. This Guanyin statue was commissioned by Chen Ying-jie, a villager residing in Hong Kong, in 1994 (Republic of China 83), and was carved by skilled craftsmen from the mainland as a gift to his long-lost hometown. Its features and flowing garments are remarkably lifelike. Since the statue could not be shipped back in one whole piece, it was divided into three parts for transport to Hujing and then reassembled, leaving two noticeable seams. From the Guanyin statue in West Mountain Park, one can enjoy views of neighboring islands on clear days. Additionally, there are underground bunkers and the Tropic of Cancer monument at Hujing West Mountain. 【Recommended stay time】 0.5 hours; due to the short stay in Hujing, it is recommended to spend a night at a guesthouse on the island.
