Hujing West Mountain Park Introduction
Hujing Island is the seventh largest island in the Penghu archipelago, located 7 nautical miles from Magong City. The island is divided into East and West Mountains, with settlements situated between them. The East Mountain is currently a military restricted area and is not open to the public, while the West Mountain has been transformed into a park and recreational area after the retreat of the National Army. There is only one main road on the West Mountain; as you ascend along this road, you can see the landscape of basalt columns on your left. Continuing up the road leads you to Xishan Park. At Xishan Park, there is a giant white marble statue of Guanyin and eighteen arhats. This Guanyin statue was commissioned by a hometown person living in Hong Kong, Chen Ying-jie, and carved by a master from mainland China in 1994 (Year 83 of the Republic of China), and donated to his long-lost hometown. The statue is vividly portrayed with its features and flowing garments. Since the Guanyin statue could not be directly transported by boat, it was divided into three parts for shipment to Hujing and then reassembled, leaving behind two noticeable seams on the body. At the Guanyin statue in Xishan Park, on clear days, you can view nearby islands. Additionally, there is a West Mountain underground bunker and the Tropic of Cancer Monument further along. [Recommended stay duration] 0.5 hours; since the stay in Hujing is short, it is advisable to spend a night at a homestay on the island.
