Hujing West Mountain Park Introduction
Hujing Island is the seventh largest island in the Penghu archipelago, located 7 nautical miles from Magong City. The island is divided into two mountains, East and West, with the villages situated between them. The East Mountain is currently a military restricted area and is not open to the public, while the West Mountain has been converted into a recreational park following the military's withdrawal. There is only one main road on the West Mountain, and as you walk up this road, you will find the landscape of basalt columns on your left. Continuing along this road leads you to West Mountain Park. In West Mountain Park, there is a large statue of Guanyin made of white marble and eighteen arhats. This Guanyin statue was commissioned by a local resident, Chen Yingjie, who has lived in Hong Kong, from a master sculptor in mainland China in the 83rd year of the Republic of China (1994) and donated it to his long-missed hometown. The statue's features and flowing garments are quite vivid. At that time, because the Guanyin statue could not be transported directly by boat, it was divided into three parts for transport to Hujing and then reassembled, which left two noticeable seams on it. On a clear day, you can enjoy views of nearby islands from the Guanyin statue in West Mountain Park. Additionally, there is the Hujing West Mountain underground bunker and the Tropic of Cancer monument. 【Recommended Visit Duration】 0.5 hours. The stay on Hujing is brief; it is suggested to stay overnight at a guesthouse on the island.
