Hujing Xishan Park Introduction
Tiger Well Island is the seventh largest island in the Penghu archipelago, located 7 nautical miles from Magong City. The island is divided into two mountains, East and West. The villages are situated between the two mountains, with the East Mountain currently being a military control zone and not open to the public, while the West Mountain has been transformed into a park and recreational area after the National Army's troop withdrawal. There is only one main road on the West Mountain, and as you walk up this road, you can see the scenic basalt columns on the left side. Continuing up the road leads to West Mountain Park, which features a large statue of Guanyin made of white marble and eighteen Arhats. The Guanyin statue was sculpted by a master from Mainland China in 1994 and donated by local resident Chen Yingjie, who has been living in Hong Kong, to his long-lost hometown. The statue is very vivid in appearance and drapery. Due to difficulties in transporting the statue by ship, it was divided into three parts for transport to Tiger Well Island before being reassembled, leaving two noticeable seams on the surface. At the Guanyin statue in West Mountain Park, when the weather is good and visibility is clear, nearby islands can be viewed from afar. Additionally, there are the Tiger Well West Mountain Underground Bunker and the Tropic of Cancer Monument further along. [Suggested stay time] 0.5 hours. Due to the short stay time on Tiger Well, it is recommended to stay overnight at a local guesthouse.
