Hujing West Mountain Park Introduction
Hujing Island is the seventh largest island in the Penghu Islands, located 7 nautical miles from Magong City. The island is divided into two mountains, east and west, with the villages situated between them. The eastern mountain is currently a military restricted area and is not open to the public, while the western mountain has been transformed into a park and recreational area after the military reduced its presence. There is only one main road on the western mountain, and as you ascend along this road, you can see the landscape of basalt columns on the left side. Continuing along the road leads to Xishan Park. At Xishan Park, there is a giant statue of Guanyin made of Han white jade and eighteen arhats. This Guanyin statue was commissioned by a local resident, Chen Yingjie, living in Hong Kong in 1994, to be sculpted by a master from mainland China and donated to his long-lost hometown. The statue's appearance and flowing garments are quite vivid. At that time, the statue could not be transported directly by boat; it was divided into three parts and transported to Hujing to be reassembled, leaving two noticeable seams on its surface. At the Guanyin statue in Xishan Park, when the weather is good and visibility is clear, you can see the nearby islands from here. Further along are the underground bunkers of Hujing West Mountain and the Tropic of Cancer monument. [Recommended Stay Time] 0.5 hours; as the stop in Hujing is short, it is recommended to stay overnight at a local guesthouse on the island.
