Lotus Seat Introduction
The Water Lotus, or Lotus Seat, is located on the coastal erosion platform southwest of Tungyin Island. The Lotus Seat is actually a volcanic crater structure that has eroded around the edges due to constant sea action, creating a depression, with a small hill rising in the center. From above or when viewed from a distance, it resembles a large, beautiful blooming lotus flower, hence the name Lotus Seat. What's particularly special is during low tide, when the water recedes, the entire Lotus Seat becomes visible. Viewing it from the basalt column formations below, it appears as if water is sprouting from the lotus flower. If this coincides with dusk, paired with the golden twilight, the scene is truly breathtaking! Upon closer inspection after low tide, the appearance of the Lotus Seat is composed of basalt. The outer circle is made up of basalt formations, while the center consists of seawater left behind from high tide and the mottled traces of basalt rocks. However, this is not mud but rather real basalt that has been eroded by the sea. The central raised basalt hill stands out prominently, resembling the flower pistil of a lotus, and nearby there are green grasses that flourish well among the basalt, making the scenery very beautiful. In fact, the Lotus Seat is an underwater volcanic crater, but rest assured, it is not of the erupting type, so it is safe for tourism! The Lotus Terrace at dusk glows from the twilight, and it is definitely worth a visit! 【Recommended stay time】 0.5 hours. Most visits to Tungyin involve cruising or brief stops, so it is suggested to stay overnight at a homestay on the island.
