Fang Si-wen Memorial Park Introduction
On the coast of the Pengbawadong section lies the Fang Siwen Memorial Park and Siwen Pavilion, established to commemorate Mr. Fang, a master of Chinese literature in the county, for his contributions to the local community. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to public service and societal affairs, making him a role model for future generations. In February 2001, the county government awarded him a commendation for his enduring achievements. Following suggestions from residents of Baisha Village, County Magistrate Lai initiated the establishment of the "Fang Siwen Memorial Park" to express the community's enduring remembrance and gratitude towards the confucianist master. Within the park stands a statue of Mr. Fang, jointly funded by Wu Anzhai and Guo Qingyun. Behind the statue, Guo Qingyun inscribed "The Life and Contributions of Confucianist Master Fang Siwen," detailing Mr. Fang's background. Born in 1917, Mr. Fang lived in Wadong Village, Penghu County, showing exceptional talent from a young age. At eight years old, he began studying under the Qing dynasty scholar Xu Lingyun for thirteen years, diligently learning the Four Books and Five Classics. During his youth, newly married and undaunted by Japanese oppression, he crossed the sea alone, teaching for nine years in Jialing and Yuanbei Islands to promote Chinese culture. After Taiwan's restoration, he continued teaching history and Chinese studies at Baisha Junior High School, later serving as the cultural division director and in various administrative roles at the Baisha Township Office, contributing for thirty-eight years until his retirement. Even after retirement, he continued to serve the community in etiquette, geomancy, temple inscriptions, poetry annotations, and the teaching of Chinese studies. He also held positions on the county's literature, election, and Confucian ceremony committees, personally authoring the "Chronicles of Penghu" and contributing significantly to historical records and cultural heritage. He was recognized as a model father on the county level and a national exemplary elder. In January 2001, Mr. Fang passed away suddenly at the age of eighty-five. He dedicated his life to serving the public and utilized his extensive knowledge for the benefit of the community, leaving behind a legacy of respect and reflection for future generations. Following recommendations from the Wadong villagers, the government constructed the memorial park, with the statue created by renowned sculptor Guo Qingyun, also funded by Wu Anzhai and Guo Qingyun, serving as a testament to his exemplary character. The scenic coastal highway features beautiful views, with the park located at a high point. The pavilion offers expansive vistas, allowing visitors to overlook various sights including Hou Liao, Wadong Port, Magong City, and Dakeng Island, while enjoying the serene views of the inner sea. At "Fang Siwen Memorial Park," visitors can observe the tide rising, gaze at the Xiyu coastline and Dakeng Island during low tide, and witness women sporadically collecting shells along the shore, all of which exhibit the charm worthy of a pause to appreciate. 【Recommended Stay Duration】 0.5 hours
