Tongliang Ancient Banyan Introduction
Tongliang Ancient Banyan is located in Tongliang Village, Baisha Township, Penghu County. It has stood in front of the local Bao'an Temple for over 300 years, making it the oldest banyan tree on Penghu Island. Despite its age, it remains sturdy, with dense foliage and branches spreading out in all directions, forming a large natural shaded resting area. This tree has witnessed the history of Penghu over three centuries and holds significant historical and cultural meaning. Spanning a wide area, its legendary origins make it one of the well-known "holy trees" in Taiwan, often referred to as "Tongliang Banyan, Chihkan Temple" in Penghu. Upon entering the Bao'an Temple, visitors can clearly see the natural sunshade formed by the intertwined branches of this 300-year-old banyan tree, which contributes to the temple's popularity. Many people come to worship here because of its long-standing traditions. The Tongliang Ancient Banyan also features many stone tablets carved by ancient people, mostly commemorating the tree's lushness and longevity. Such a venerable and flourishing banyan tree is quite rare and needs to be actively maintained. If you visit the Bao'an Temple and the Tongliang Ancient Banyan, please remember to leave no traces on the great banyan tree apart from memories and photos! 【Recommended Stay Time】 0.5 hours
