The Yang Family Filial Piety Arch is the first archway in Hsinchu City and the oldest existing archway in northern Taiwan. Yang Ju-niang, the wife of Zhuqian Lin Chi, lost her husband at the age of twenty-four and attempted to follow him in death several times. She took on the role of both mother and father, enduring hardships to raise her children until her death at the age of forty-five, becoming an exemplary figure of filial piety and virtue.
