The Way of the Wall Introduction
Chiayi Park, a work rich in philosophical meaning, features a unique and beautiful style by appropriately showcasing elements commonly found in Minnan architecture. The "Path of Walls" is constructed with a form based on the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches that serve as starting and ending platforms, symbolizing respect for the movement of celestial bodies. It employs the principle of repeated units arranged in an alternating fashion to reveal the spatial character of "seeking change within uniformity." The entrance hallway, known as "Heaven Round and Earth Square," along with the octagonal hexagonal pathways and circular arches, all align with the profound cosmology and philosophies of life cultivated by the Han people over thousands of years. The surrounding wall adopts a low, short "Cloud Wall" design that is easy to cross. The "Cloud Wall" can be sat upon, lay on, walked upon, or played on, transforming its role from mere enclosure to that of a writhing dragon, full of vitality and distinctiveness.
