Kao-chih Ceramics Museum (Closed for Renovation) Introduction
The only characteristic museum of Chaozhou pottery in Taiwan is located at the cultural center across from Beimen Station of Alishan Railway. Chiayi is the hometown of Chaozhou pottery, which is referred to as "Chiayi ware" in Japanese. Most of the artisans of Chaozhou pottery learn their craft in Chiayi. In Taiwan, it is commonly abbreviated as "Chaozhou," "Chaozhou Wangzi," or "Chaozhou Zi." In the past, it was often used for decorative purposes in temple architecture, with traditional themes centered around figures engaged in fishing, wood gathering, farming, and reading, complemented by scenes featuring insects, fish, birds, beasts, flowers, plants, and theatrical performances, creating a clear distinction between main and secondary elements, resulting in a harmonious composition.
