Tsaotao Museum (Closed for Renovation) Introduction
The only特色交趾陶 (Jiaozi Clay) museum in Taiwan is located at the cultural center opposite the Beimen Station of the Alishan Railway. Chiayi is the hometown of Jiaozi Clay, which is known as "Chiayi ware" in Japan. Most of the artisans of Jiaozi Clay learn their craft in Chiayi. In Taiwanese folk culture, Jiaozi Clay is commonly referred to as "Jiaozi," "Jiaozi Wangzi," or "Jiaozi Zi." In the past, it was mainly used for decorative purposes in temple architecture, with traditional themes focusing on characters like fishermen, woodcutters, farmers, and scholars, combined with scenes of insects, fish, birds, beasts, flowers, grass, and theatrical performances, showcasing clear main and secondary elements with a harmonious composition.
