GoodLuck Coffee Introduction
Goodluck Coffee is located in a small alley on Nanxing Road and is a professional coffee shop known primarily to insiders. From the entrance of the alley, it is hard to imagine that this unique café is hidden behind a machinery store. Upon entering Goodluck Coffee, customers will see various mechanical devices modified by the owner, Lin Peng-Wei, including a light switch repurposed from a generator's dashboard and small table lamps adorned with Captain America's shield, all adding an interesting touch to the layered wooden walls and furniture. Peng-Wei mentioned that the café's space was originally his room during his youth, adjacent to his father Lin An-Cai's Anfeng Machinery Shop. Influenced by his father's work, he learned a great deal about mechanical engineering while growing up, and he also studied interior design and architecture during his education. The process of transforming the room into a café took about two years, completed entirely by himself through hard work and dedication. After returning to Chiayi City from school, Peng-Wei's first job was as a coffee machine engineer, where he would repair coffee machines at various cafes. During the first three years of his career, he began to nurture the idea of opening his own coffee shop. The café features a display of coffee equipment on the shelves, along with a coffee machine maintenance workbench next to the bar, where various wrenches, screwdrivers, and pliers hang heavily on the wall, as if waiting patiently to be utilized by Peng-Wei, who skillfully handles them. When exiting the restroom at Goodluck Coffee, I noticed a framed certificate written in Japanese hanging on the wall. Upon inquiry, I learned that Peng-Wei's grandfather, Lin Wu-Chang, founded Anfeng Saw Shop during the Japanese colonial era, earning the nickname "Saw Lin." He contributed significantly to society before the advent of reinforced concrete in Taiwan and was awarded this certificate of appreciation by manufacturers. I imagine the craftsmanship of Lin Wu-Chang as a wood and metal saw artisan has been passed down through generations to his son Lin An-Cai and grandson Lin Peng-Wei, embodying a three-generation legacy of meticulousness, dedication, and passion for their work, now firmly established in every corner of the café.
