Chiayi City Museum Introduction
The Chiayi City Museum, located next to the Chiayi Wood Processing Plant, was established in 2004. At the time of its establishment, it was the only comprehensive multifunctional museum in the Chiayi area, focusing on natural landscapes such as the geology and fossils of Chiayi. The museum closed in 2018 for exhibition updates and repositioned itself as the "City Museum" of Chiayi City, with a new mission of "Chiayi residents caring about Chiayi affairs, and travelers exploring Chiayi City." It showcases the cultural characteristics, historical experiences, and memories of the city's citizens, aspiring to become a museum belonging to the city and its people. The Chiayi City Museum, redefined as the "City Museum," offers a new space and content that allows visitors to see the city of Chiayi from a fresh perspective. On the first floor, there is the "Exploring Chiayi Garden" children's hall, where children can experience the history of the city through play. The second floor features the permanent exhibition "Looking Forward to Zhu Luo," which enables visitors to see Chiayi, its history, its future, and themselves through the exhibitions. The third floor houses the "Building on Drama—Come Listen to the Temple Storyteller" Tze-Chiang Pottery Hall, which showcases the distinctive local craft of Tze-Chiang pottery in a museum-within-a-museum format. Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00.
