Chiayi City Museum Introduction
The Chiayi City Museum, located next to the Chiayi Lumber Factory, was established in 2004. At its inception, it was the only large-scale comprehensive multifunctional museum in the Chiayi area, focusing primarily on the natural landscapes of Chiayi, including geology and fossils. In 2018, the museum closed for updates to its exhibitions and repositioned itself as the "City Museum" of Chiayi, with a new mission of "Chiayi residents caring about Chiayi affairs, and visitors exploring Chiayi City." The museum showcases the cultural characteristics, history, and memories of the citizens of Chiayi, aiming to become a museum that belongs to the city and its people. The Chiayi City Museum, now redefined as the "City Museum," offers a renewed space and content, prompting visitors to view the city of Chiayi from a new perspective. The first floor features the "Explore Chiayi Garden" children’s section, where kids can experience the history of the city through play. The second floor houses the permanent exhibition "Prospects of Zhuluo," which allows visitors to see Chiayi, its history, its future, and themselves through the exhibits. The third floor presents the "Performing Arts in Architecture—Come Listen to the Temple Elders Tell Tales" section, showcasing the unique Chiayi craft of Tranverse pottery in a museum-within-a-museum format. Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00 to 17:00.
