Daxi Cuo Water Environment Education Park Introduction
Daqiuzuo Water Environment Education Park was originally a wasteland next to the Ziji Temple in Daqiu Village. Through the Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program approved by the Executive Yuan, the water quality improvement and waterfront environment reconstruction project not only provides environmental education but also improves water quality and fosters ecology. The park covers an area of 0.65 hectares and features an underground gravel aeration oxidation tank with a daily processing capacity of 3,000 tons, utilizing naturally occurring microorganisms in the water to decompose pollutants. After treatment, domestic sewage can reduce biochemical oxygen demand by 66.1%, suspended solids by 79%, and ammonia nitrogen by 85%. This natural purification method differs from traditional sewage treatment plants that rely on coagulation and sedimentation, as it does not require the addition of chemicals, making it extremely environmentally friendly. Daqiuzuo Water Environment Education Park employs natural purification methods to improve water quality and develop environmentally experiential teaching incorporating local cultural and historical characteristics, water quality purification, and ecological creation, thereby enhancing public awareness, ethics, and responsibility towards the environment, ultimately constructing an inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable city. The park offers sports facilities such as basketball, badminton, and tennis courts, as well as children's playgrounds, environmental education classrooms, constructed wetlands, and birdwatching pavilions. It is the first multifunctional area in Chiayi City that combines water quality purification, ecological conservation, environmental education, and recreational activities, and is located along the cycling route to the flower sea in the city, making it suitable for visits and stopovers.
