Neidong National Forest Recreation Area Introduction
Neidong National Forest Recreation Area is located in Wulai, covering an area of approximately 1,191.34 hectares, with an elevation ranging from 230 meters to 800 meters. Within the area, there are three rivers: Nanshi River, Neidong River, and Wusha River, which are distinctive features of the park's river ecosystem. It includes three trails: the Waterfall Viewing Trail, the Forest Bathing Trail, and the Scenic Viewing Trail. The Neidong Forest Recreation Area is rich in moisture, and its natural ecology is well preserved. Each year during the transition from spring to summer, the mating season of frogs and insects fills the forest with sounds, leading to it being referred to as "Frog Valley". The Luohau Dam, completed in 1947, is an important hydraulic engineering project within the recreation area. The name "Luohau" originates from the Atayal language meaning "Lahaw". The dam captures water from the Nanshi River and channels it through a 4.7-kilometer tunnel to the Wulai Power Plant, utilizing the elevation difference for hydroelectric power generation. The impressive structure of the Luohau Dam is an important sight in the Neidong Forest Recreation Area. The pet-friendly Waterfall Viewing Trail features the Neidong River waterfall group located at the base of the forest recreation area, where the Neidong River merges with the Nanshi River, creating spectacular water flows. This area is rich in negative ions, often referred to as the "vitamins of the air." Standing on the waterfall viewing platform allows for close observation of the falls while enjoying the refreshing sensation brought by the negative ions. Currently, the Neidong Forest Recreation Area has conditions to allow pets on the Waterfall Viewing Trail (the Forest Bathing Trail and Scenic Viewing Trail are not yet open to pets), enabling you to enjoy a forest bath with your beloved pet.
