Neidong National Forest Recreation Area Introduction
Nai Dong National Forest Recreation Area is located in Wulai, covering an area of approximately 1,191.34 hectares, with an elevation ranging from 230 meters to 800 meters. The area features three main rivers: Nanshi Creek, Nai Dong Creek, and Wusa Creek, with river ecology being a distinctive landscape of the park. It offers three trails: the Waterfall Viewing Trail, the Forest Bathing Trail, and the Scenic Trail. The Nai Dong Forest Recreation Area has a rich humidity, and its natural ecology is well-preserved. Every spring and summer, during the mating season of frogs and insects, the forest fills with the sounds of “calling for spring,” earning it the nickname “Valley of Dolls.” The Luohau Dam, completed in 1947, is an important hydraulic engineering project within the forest recreation area. The name “Luohau” derives from the Atayal language, meaning "Lahaw." The dam captures water from Nanshi Creek and channels it through a 4.7-kilometer tunnel to the Wulai Power Plant, utilizing the elevation difference for hydropower generation. The impressive structure of the Luohau Dam is a significant sight in the Nai Dong Forest Recreation Area. The pet-friendly Waterfall Viewing Trail leads to a series of waterfalls on Nai Dong Creek, located at the lower end of the forest recreation area, where Nai Dong Creek converges with Nanshi Creek. The powerful water flow here is quite spectacular, generating abundant negative ions, often referred to as “vitamins of the air.” Standing on the waterfall viewing platform, visitors can enjoy the refreshing experience of negative ions while observing the waterfall up close. Currently, the Nai Dong Forest Recreation Area allows pets on the Waterfall Viewing Trail (the Forest Bathing Trail and Scenic Trail are not open to pets), so you can enjoy a forest bath with your beloved pet.
