Neidong National Forest Recreation Area Introduction
Neidong National Forest Recreation Area is located in Wulai, covering an area of approximately 1,191.34 hectares, with an elevation ranging from 230 meters to 800 meters. The area features three streams: Nanshi River, Neidong River, and Wushe River, with aquatic ecosystems being a highlight of the park. There are three walking trails: the waterfall trail, forest bathing trail, and scenic trail. The Neidong Forest Recreation Area boasts abundant moisture and well-preserved natural ecology. Each spring and summer, during the mating season of frogs and insects, the forest comes alive with sounds, earning it the nickname "Baby Valley." The Luhao Dam, completed in 1947, is an important water management project within the recreation area. The name "Luhao" originates from the Atayal language "Lahaw," and the dam captures the waters of the Nanshi River, channeling it through a 4.7-kilometer tunnel to the Wulai Power Plant, utilizing the elevation difference for hydropower generation. The impressive structure of the Luhao Dam is a significant attraction in the Neidong Forest Recreation Area. The pet-friendly waterfall trail features the Neidong waterfall group at the base of the recreation area, where the Neidong River merges with the Nanshi River, creating a magnificent water flow and abundant negative ions, often referred to as the "vitamins of the air." Visitors can enjoy the refreshing experience of negative ions close to the waterfall from the viewing platform. Currently, the Neidong Forest Recreation Area has conditions in place to allow pets (only on the waterfall trail; the forest bathing and scenic trails are not currently open to pets), so you can enjoy a forest bath with your beloved pet.
