Neidong National Forest Recreation Area Introduction
Neidong National Forest Recreation Area is located in Wulai, covering an area of approximately 1,191.34 hectares, with an elevation ranging from 230 meters to 800 meters. The area features three rivers: Nanshi River, Neidong River, and Wushe River, with river ecology being a distinctive landscape of the park. There are three trails: the waterfall observation trail, forest bathing trail, and scenic trail. The Neidong Forest Recreation Area is rich in moisture and has well-preserved natural ecology. Every spring and summer, during the mating season of frogs and insects, the forest resonates with the sounds of "calling spring," leading to its nickname "Doll Valley." The Luohau Dam, completed in 1947, is an important hydraulic engineering feature within the forest recreation area. The name "Luohau" comes from the Atayal language "Lahaw." The dam captures water from the Nanshi River, channeling it through a 4.7-kilometer tunnel to the Wulai Power Plant, utilizing the elevation difference for hydropower generation. The impressive structure of the Luohau Dam is a key sight in the Neidong Forest Recreation Area. The pet-friendly waterfall observation trail features a waterfall cluster at the base of the Neidong River, where it merges with the Nanshi River, creating a grand spectacle. This area also produces abundant negative ions, known as the "vitamins of the air." Visitors can enjoy the refreshing feeling of negative ions by observing the waterfall up close from the observation platform. Currently, the Neidong Forest Recreation Area allows pets under certain conditions (limited to the waterfall observation trail; the forest bathing trail and scenic trail are temporarily closed to pets), so you can enjoy a forest bath with your beloved pet.
