Neidong National Forest Recreation Area Introduction
Nai Dong National Forest Recreation Area is located in Wulai, covering an area of approximately 1,191.34 hectares, with an elevation ranging from 230 meters to 800 meters above sea level. The area features three rivers: Nanshih Creek, Nai Dong Creek, and Wusabei Creek, with river ecology being a distinctive landscape of the park. It includes three walking trails: the waterfall viewing trail, forest bathing trail, and scenic trail. The Nai Dong Forest Recreation Area has abundant moisture, and its natural ecology is well-preserved. During the transition from spring to summer, the mating season for frogs and insects creates a vibrant atmosphere in the forest, leading to its nickname "Valley of the Babies." The Luohau Dam, completed in 1947, is an important hydraulic engineering feature within the recreation area. The term "Luohau" comes from the Atayal language meaning "Lahaw." The dam captures water from the Nanshih Creek and channels it through a 4.7-kilometer tunnel to the Wulai Power Plant, utilizing the height difference for hydropower generation. The magnificent structure of the Luohau Dam is a significant attraction in the Nai Dong Forest Recreation Area. The pet-friendly waterfall viewing trail features the Nai Dong Creek waterfall group located at the base of the forest recreation area, where Nai Dong Creek joins Nanshih Creek. The impressive water flow creates a spectacular scene and generates abundant negative ions, famously known as the "vitamin of the air." Standing on the waterfall viewing platform allows you to enjoy a close view of the waterfalls and the refreshing sensation provided by the negative ions. Currently, the Nai Dong Forest Recreation Area allows pets under certain conditions (only on the waterfall viewing trail, while the forest bathing and scenic trails are not open to pets), so you can enjoy a forest bath with your beloved pet.
