Neidong National Forest Recreation Area Introduction
The Neidong National Forest Recreation Area is located in Wulai, covering an area of approximately 1,191.34 hectares, with an elevation ranging from 230 meters to 800 meters. The area features three rivers: Nanshi River, Neidong River, and Wushe River, with the river ecology being a distinctive landscape of the park. It offers three trails: the waterfall viewing trail, forest bathing trail, and scenic trail. The Neidong Forest Recreation Area has abundant moisture and well-preserved natural ecology. Every spring and summer, during the mating season of frogs and insects, the forest is lively with sounds that attract mates, earning it the nickname "Baby Valley." The Luohau Dam, completed in 1947, is an important water conservancy project within the recreation area. The name Luohau comes from the Atayal language "Lahaw" (拉號). The dam captures the water from the Nanshi River and channels it through a 4.7-kilometer tunnel to the Wulai power plant, utilizing the height difference for hydroelectric power generation. The impressive structure of the Luohau Dam is a significant scenic feature of the Neidong Forest Recreation Area. The pet-friendly waterfall viewing trail features a series of waterfalls at the base of the Neidong River, where it merges with the Nanshi River, boasting powerful water flow that is quite spectacular, accompanied by rich negative ions. These negative ions are often referred to as the "vitamins of the air." Standing on the viewing platform allows for close-up observation of the waterfall while enjoying the refreshing sensations brought by negative ions. Currently, the Neidong Forest Recreation Area permits pets in certain areas (only on the waterfall viewing trail; the forest bathing and scenic trails are not open to pets), allowing you to enjoy a forest bath with your beloved pet.
