Neidong National Forest Recreation Area Introduction
Neidong National Forest Recreation Area is located in Wulai, covering an area of approximately 1191.34 hectares, with an elevation ranging from 230 meters to 800 meters. The area features three rivers: Nanshi River, Neidong River, and Wusa River, with river ecology being a characteristic landscape of the park. It has three main trails: the Waterfall Trail, the Forest Bathing Trail, and the Scenery Trail. The Neidong Forest Recreation Area is rich in moisture, and its natural ecology is well preserved. During the transition from spring to summer, the mating season for frogs and insects fills the forest with calls, earning the area the nickname "Baby Valley." The Luohao Dam, completed in 1947, is an important hydraulic engineering project within the recreation area. The term "Luohao" originates from the Atayal language meaning "to draw water." The dam captures the water from the Nanshi River and channels it through a 4.7-kilometer tunnel to the Wulai Power Plant, utilizing the height difference between the two locations for hydroelectric power generation. The impressive structure of the Luohao Dam is a significant attraction within the Neidong Forest Recreation Area. The pet-friendly Waterfall Trail features the Neidong River waterfall group located at the bottom of the forest recreation area, where the Neidong River flows into the Nanshi River. The powerful water flow is spectacular and brings a wealth of negative ions, often referred to as the "vitamin of the air." Standing on the waterfall observation platform allows for close viewing of the waterfall while enjoying the refreshing effects of negative ions. Currently, the Neidong Forest Recreation Area permits pets in designated areas (only on the Waterfall Trail; the Forest Bathing Trail and Scenery Trail are not yet open for pets), allowing you to enjoy a forest bath together with your beloved pet.
