It originated during the Japanese colonial period and primarily spans the area between Taichung Road and Guoguang Road, intersected by Minyi Street, Zhengqi Street, Hezuo Street, Zhengyi Street, and Jishi Street. Unlike mixed commercial areas such as Yichung Street Night Market, Fengjia Night Market, and Donghai Villa Night Market, Zhongxiao Night Market is well-known specifically for its food offerings, featuring numerous snack stalls and restaurants. The night market is adjacent to the Third Market of Taichung City, so it begins operating when the market closes, with most vendors opening around 4 PM. Famous snacks include rice cakes in bamboo tubes, salt and pepper chicken, grilled meat, tofu pudding, steak, noodle soup, stinky tofu, omelet rice, pork rib rice, sugarcane juice, and more.
