Taichung City God Temple Introduction
Chenghuang Temple is the center of the people's faith. It worships various deities including Chenghuang God, Guan Sheng Emperor, Zhushe Niangniang, Chenghuang Madam, Heavenly Mother, Fude Zhengshen, Wenchang Emperor, Wen Judge, Wu Judge, General Xie, General Fan, and the deities Niu Ye, Ma Ye, and Yin Yang Si Gong. After the First Sino-Japanese War, Taiwan fell under difficulties, and the original temple site was converted into a sugar factory by the Japanese, leading to relocation of the deity. In 1921, local gentry including Lin Ziqin, Wu Ziyu, Lin Yandun, Lin Zufan, Lai Qingyan, and Lin Chengpo initiated the reconstruction of a new temple at No. 50, Lane 94, Cooperation Street, South District of Taichung City, which continues to this day. The Chenghuang God worshipped in Taichung City Chenghuang Temple oversees the local governance of the former Taichung City jurisdiction. Due to the strong and devout faith of the local people, the temple remains a vibrant site of worship, and the fifteenth day of the sixth lunar month is celebrated as Chenghuang God's festival day, marking a significant religious event in the area, with grand birthday celebrations held by the temple. Beginning from the first day of the sixth lunar month, a large number of worshippers gather at the temple, and in addition to the festival, there are folk activities such as parades and performances. Consequently, the performance stage in front of the temple becomes lively with drums and gongs, showcasing a bustling scene of festivities.
