Taichung City is known for its reputation as a cultural city, with a flourishing literary scene, an advanced education system, and strong support from various sectors for cultural activities. In 1976, the famous entrepreneur Mr. He Yong donated to build a cultural center on Shuangshi Road, which became the first cultural center in Taiwan. In 1979, the central government promoted 12 construction projects and subsidized counties and cities to establish a cultural center. Our city chose to build one at No. 600 Yingcai Road, with construction commencing in August of the following year and completing on November 12, 1983. Covering an area of 16,615 square meters, it was named the "Taichung City Cultural Center." (The original Shuangshi Road Cultural Center was renamed "Wenying Pavilion" in 1983 and was managed by National Taiwan Sport University in 2012.) After the merger and upgrade of Taichung County and City into a direct-controlled municipality on December 25, 2010, it was renamed "Taichung City Dadun Cultural Center". On January 1, 2013, it was restructured as an internal unit of the Cultural Bureau and named "Taichung City Government Cultural Bureau Dadun Cultural Center". In 1976, the notable entrepreneur Mr. Ho Yong donated a cultural center on Shuangshi Road, making it the first cultural center in Taiwan. In 1979, the central government promoted 12 construction projects and subsidized various counties and cities to establish a cultural center. Our city chose to build one at No. 600 Yingcai Road, which broke ground the following August and was completed and inaugurated on November 12, 1983, covering an area of 16,615 square meters and named "Taichung City Cultural Center." (The original Shuangshi Road Cultural Center was renamed "Wenying Hall" in 1983 and was managed by National Taiwan Sports University in 2012.) After the merger of Taichung County and City into a direct-controlled municipality on December 25, 2010, it was renamed "Taichung City Dadun Cultural Center."
