Taichung Cultural Center of Tun District Introduction
Taichung City is known as the City of Culture, with a flourishing literary atmosphere, advanced educational endeavors, and strong support for cultural activities from all sectors of society. In 1976, the renowned entrepreneur Mr. He Yong donated to the construction of a cultural center on Shuangshi Road, making it the first cultural center in Taiwan. In 1979, the central government promoted 12 infrastructure projects, providing subsidies for each county and city to establish a cultural center. Taichung City chose to build its center at No. 600 Yingcai Road, with construction starting in the following year, and it was completed and inaugurated on November 12, 1983, covering an area of 16,615 square meters and named the "Taichung City Cultural Center." (The original Shuangshi Road Cultural Center was renamed "Wen Ying Hall" in 1983 and was managed by National Taiwan Sport University in 2012.) After the merger of Taichung County and Taichung City into a direct-controlled municipality on December 25, 2010, it was renamed "Taichung City Dadun Cultural Center." On January 1, 2013, it was restructured and integrated into the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Taichung City Government, being renamed the "Taichung City Government Cultural Bureau Dadun Cultural Center." The Dadun Cultural Center manages the Zhongshan Hall and shares office space with the "Taichung City Library Dadun Branch." The facility includes 10 exhibition rooms and offers lecture halls, audio-visual rooms, briefing rooms, conference rooms, study classrooms, reading areas, and self-study rooms, serving as a comprehensive educational venue for various cultural promotion activities, making it an important cultural hub in Taichung City.
