Taichung Cultural Center Introduction
Taichung City is known for its reputation as a cultural city, with a thriving literary atmosphere and well-developed educational institutions. Various sectors of society spare no effort in promoting cultural activities. In 1976, the esteemed entrepreneur Mr. He Yong donated the first cultural center in Taiwan, located on Shuangshi Road. In 1979, the central government promoted 12 projects and subsidized each county and city to establish a cultural center. Taichung City chose to construct one at No. 600 Yingcai Road, which began construction in August of the following year and was completed and opened on November 12, 1983, covering an area of 16,615 square meters, named the "Taichung City Cultural Center." (The original Shuangshi Road Cultural Center was renamed "Wenying Pavilion" in 1983 and transferred to the National Taiwan Sports University for management in 2012.) After the merger of Taichung County and City into a direct-controlled municipality on December 25, 2010, it was renamed the "Taichung City Dadun Cultural Center." On January 1, 2013, it became an internal unit of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, renamed "Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government Dadun Cultural Center." The management area of the Dadun Cultural Center includes Zhongshan Hall and shares office space with the "Taichung City Library Dadun Branch." The facility features 10 exhibition rooms, as well as a lecture hall, audiovisual screening room, briefing room, conference room, workshop classroom, reading area, and study room, making it a comprehensive educational venue for various cultural promotion activities, and an important cultural hub in Taichung City.
