Taichung International Airport Introduction
To provide travelers with a better flight environment and to strive towards becoming an international airport that meets global standards, as well as to respond to the world's growing attention to environmental conservation, the new international terminal was officially opened on April 11, 2013. The design incorporates energy-saving and carbon-reducing green concepts, and the spatial structure is combined with smooth movement patterns, creating a compact yet sophisticated atmosphere that reflects the scale of an international airport. It meets various indicators such as daily energy conservation, carbon dioxide reduction, waste reduction, indoor environment improvement, water resource management, and sewage waste improvement, earning a gold-level certificate in green building. The new international terminal has an annual passenger service capacity of 1.7 million, which, combined with the existing terminal, raises the total to 2.9 million annual services. Furthermore, the operational aircraft types have been upgraded from 4C category models (such as the B737-800, which seats approximately 150 passengers) to 4D category models (such as the B757, which seats around 200 passengers). To enhance service quality for the public and create a sustainable operational niche with diverse service goals, Taichung Airport, during the construction of the international terminal, entrusted non-public service commercial and public service facilities to private institutions under the Public Construction Participation Act to encourage private participation in public construction. This includes a blend of domestic and international cultural features, offering various duty-free shops, dining, beauty convenience stores, local cultural exhibition halls, 3C products, audiovisual media and bookstores; as well as traveler inquiry service desks, mobile customer service personnel, scenic rest areas, internet services, children's play areas, shopping luggage carts, green walls, cultural galleries, stress-relief massage chairs, and baby strollers, all contributing to promoting Taiwan’s industry and tourism development while creating social and economic benefits. The market population served by Taichung International Airport includes not only Taichung, Nantou, and Changhua administrative districts but also extends to the north to Miaoli and south to Yunlin, covering around 6 million residents, forming the airport's essential customer base. In response to the increasing air travel demand from the central urban population, several airlines are stationed at the airport, and the latest stationed airlines and flight routes can be found on the airport's official website. On February 5, 2015, Taichung International Airport officially began offering international air cargo services, initially providing a handling capacity of approximately 8,600 tons of cargo annually, facilitating nearby business owners' import and export operations, and enhancing the airport's functionality in passenger and cargo services. The goal is to provide comprehensive and complete services, developing towards a dual transport model of "passenger and cargo operations progressing together," and continuously pursuing the operational philosophy of "flight safety, well-equipped facilities, and customer satisfaction" to serve as a key gateway for social and economic development in the central region.
