Taichung International Airport Introduction
To provide travelers with a higher quality flying environment and to move towards the goal of becoming an internationally recognized airport, the newly constructed international terminal was officially inaugurated on April 11, 2013. The design incorporates green concepts focused on energy conservation and carbon reduction. The spatial structure combines smooth flow and spaciousness, creating a compact yet refined atmosphere suitable for an international airport. It meets indicators for daily energy saving, carbon dioxide reduction, waste reduction, indoor environment, water resources, and sewage improvement, achieving the Golden Level certification for green buildings. The new international terminal has a capacity to serve 1.7 million passengers annually, increasing the total annual service capacity to 2.9 million passengers when combined with the existing terminal. Furthermore, the operational aircraft types have been upgraded from category 4C (such as the B737-800 with approximately 150 seats) to category 4D (such as the B757 with around 200 seats). In order to enhance service quality for the public and to create a sustainable business niche through diversified service goals, during the construction of the international terminal, the Taichung Airport has entrusted a private organization to handle commercial and public service facilities not related to public authority, promoting private participation in public construction. It integrates cultural characteristics from both China and abroad, providing various duty-free shops, dining options, beauty convenience stores, local cultural exhibition halls, 3C products, audiovisual DVDs, and bookstores. It also offers passenger inquiry service counters, mobile customer service personnel, scenic rest areas, internet services, children's play areas, shopping baggage trolleys, green walls, cultural galleries, relaxation massage chairs, baby strollers, and more, driving the development of Taiwan's industry and tourism sectors and creating social and economic benefits. The market population served by Taichung International Airport extends beyond Taichung, Nantou, and Changhua administrative areas, reaching 6 million residents from Miaoli in the north to Yunlin in the south, representing the airport's core source of customers. In response to the increasing demand for air travel from the central city region, several airlines have established operations here. For the latest airline schedules and routes, please refer to the airport's official website. As of February 5, 2015, Taichung International Airport has officially offered international air cargo services, initially providing a handling capacity of approximately 8,600 tons of cargo annually, facilitating local businesses in the central region to handle import and export operations conveniently. The airport aims to enhance its passenger and cargo service functions, striving towards the development goal of "simultaneous passenger and cargo operations," and continues to adhere to the operational philosophy of "flight safety, adequate facilities, and customer satisfaction," aiming to serve as a key gateway to external socio-economic development in the central region.
