Taichung International Airport Introduction
To provide travelers with a higher quality flying environment and to strive towards the goal of becoming an internationally recognized airport, while also responding to the global emphasis on environmental protection, the newly constructed international terminal was officially opened on April 11, 2013. The design incorporates energy-saving and carbon reduction green concepts, with a spatial structure that combines smooth flow and space, creating an intimate yet cosmopolitan atmosphere that meets the scale of an international airport. It complies with daily energy-saving, carbon dioxide reduction, waste reduction, indoor environment improvement, water resources, and wastewater improvement indicators, achieving the Gold-level certification for green buildings. The annual passenger service capacity of the new international terminal is 1.7 million, which, when combined with the existing terminal, can increase the total annual service capacity to 2.9 million. The operating aircraft types have also been upgraded from category 4C (such as the Boeing 737-800 with approximately 150 seats) to category 4D (such as the Boeing 757 with approximately 200 seats). To enhance the quality of public service and create a sustainable business niche through diversified services, during the construction of the international terminal, Taichung Airport entrusted private organizations to promote public engagement in construction projects unrelated to public authority, integrating cultural characteristics from both domestic and foreign sources. In addition to providing various duty-free shops, dining options, beauty convenience stores, local cultural exhibition halls, 3C electronics, audiovisual discs, and bookstores, it also offers traveler information desks, mobile customer service personnel, scenic rest areas, internet services, children's play areas, shopping luggage trolleys, green walls, cultural galleries, relaxation massage chairs, infant strollers, and more, to boost Taiwan's industrial features and tourism industry, creating social and economic benefits. The catchment area for Taichung International Airport includes Taichung, Nantou, and Changhua administrative districts, as well as northern Miaoli and southern Yunlin, with a total population of 6 million, providing a fundamental source of customers for the airport. To respond to the increasing air travel demand from the growing population in the central city region, multiple airlines are currently stationed at the airport to offer flight operations; for the latest airlines and routes, please check the airport's official website. Taichung International Airport officially began providing international air cargo services on February 5, 2015, initially offering approximately 8,600 tons of cargo handling capacity per year, facilitating local cargo owners in handling import and export operations conveniently, fulfilling the air cargo service function of an international airport. The goal is to provide comprehensive and complete services and develop towards the objective of "simultaneous passenger and cargo transport," while maintaining "flight safety, well-equipped facilities, and customer satisfaction" as the management philosophy, aiming to serve as a key gateway for socio-economic development in the central region.
