貯木池

The park's predecessor was the "Daxueshan Forestry Company," the largest lumber mill in the East Asia region during the 1960s. It was the first facility in Taiwan to introduce American-standard operations, creating a demonstration of the forest products industry in Taiwan, which stimulated the prosperity of the Taichung Mountain City area. After the forestry company ceased operations, the park retained some precious historical relics of the forest products industry. The log storage pond has transformed into an ideal habitat for migratory birds, insects, and other animals, showcasing the trend of forest culture shifting from resource exploitation to ecological conservation. In summer, the pond blossoms with lotus flowers, becoming the best spot for lotus appreciation in central Taiwan. Additionally, to cherish natural resources, the park employs driftwood collected over the years as materials, inviting domestic and foreign masters to meticulously carve cultural wooden sculptures in various styles. Through the unique carving techniques of wood sculptors, the driftwood is endowed with renewed and sustainable vitality, shaping the park into a unique wood sculpture ecological aesthetic park.

Dongshi Forest Culture Park Introduction

The park was formerly known as the "Taiwan Daxueshan Forestry Co., Ltd.," established to develop the forest resources of Daxueshan, and it housed the largest sawmill in East Asia during the 1960s. It was the first facility in Taiwan to introduce American-style integrated operations. The park is located at the starting point of Provincial Highway 8 (about 2.3 kilometers in), next to National Dongshi Senior Industrial Vocational School, and it is a necessary transit point for entering GuGuan, Baxianshan, and Daxueshan National Forest Recreation Area. It serves as a diversified recreational and environmental education space that combines natural ecology, preservation of forest industry history, and wood carving art exhibitions. Additionally, it is the best spot for lotus viewing in central Taiwan during the summer. Currently, free entry for visits is available.
