貯木池

The park was formerly known as the "Dasyueshan Forestry Company," which was the largest lumber mill in East Asia during the 1960s and was the first in Taiwan to introduce an American-style integrated operation system, thereby creating a model timber industry in Taiwan and promoting the prosperity of the Taichung Mountain Town area. After the forestry company ceased operations, the park retained some precious historical relics of the timber industry. Among them, the log pond has evolved into an ideal habitat for migratory birds, insects, and other wildlife, showcasing the trend of transforming forestry culture from resource development to ecological conservation. In the summer, lotus flowers bloom abundantly in the pond, making it one of the best spots for lotus viewing in central Taiwan. Additionally, in order to cherish natural resources, the park uses years' worth of driftwood as materials and invites domestic and international masters to create wooden sculptures of various cultural styles. Through the unique carving techniques of these wood sculptors, the driftwood is given new life and sustainability, shaping the park into a uniquely characterized ecological wood sculpture aesthetic park.

Dongshi Forestry Culture Park Introduction

The park was originally established as "Taiwan Dasyueshan Forest Company" to develop the forest resources of Dasyueshan. It housed the largest sawmill in East Asia during the 1960s and was the first in Taiwan to introduce American-style integrated operations. The park is located at the starting point of Provincial Highway 8 (about 2.3 kilometers in), next to the National Dongshi Senior Industrial Vocational School, making it a key passage to Guangu, Baxianshan, and Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area. It serves as a diverse recreational and environmental education site, combining natural ecology, preservation of forestry industrial history, and wooden sculpture art exhibitions. It is also the best spot for lotus viewing in central Taiwan during summer. Currently, free admission is offered.
