貯木池

The area was formerly known as "Dasyueshan Forestry Company," which was the largest lumber mill in East Asia during the 1960s. It was the first factory in Taiwan to introduce American-style integrated operations, establishing a demonstration timber industry in Taiwan and boosting the prosperity of the Taichung Mountain City area. After the forestry company ceased operations, the park retained some precious historical sites related to the timber industry, with the log storage pond evolving into an excellent habitat for migratory birds, insects, and other animals, reflecting the trend of transforming forestry culture from resource exploitation to ecological conservation. In summer, the lotus flowers bloom in the pond, making it the best spot for lotus viewing in central Taiwan. Additionally, in order to cherish natural resources, the park has invited master craftsmen from both domestic and international backgrounds to create cultural wood sculptures using driftwood collected over the years. Through the unique carving techniques of these wood carvers, the driftwood is given new life and sustainability, shaping the park into a unique wood sculpture ecological aesthetic park.

Tongshi Forestry Cultural Park Introduction

The park was originally established as the "Taiwan Dasyueshan Forestry Co., Ltd." to develop the forest resources of Dasyueshan. It had the largest sawmill in East Asia in the 1960s and was the first in Taiwan to introduce American integrated operations in its facilities. The park is located at the starting point of Taiwan Route 8 (approximately 2.3 kilometers), next to the National Dongshi Senior Industrial Vocational School, serving as a necessary passage to and from Guoguan, Baxianshan, and Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area. It offers a diverse recreational and environmental education space that combines natural ecology, preservation of forestry industrial heritage, and wood carving art displays. It is also the best spot in central Taiwan for lotus viewing in summer, and currently, free admission is available for visitors.
