Dongshi Forest Culture Park Introduction
The Dasyueshan Forest Area is rich in timber resources. To properly utilize these resources and create economic benefits to promote local prosperity, the Dasyueshan Forestry Company was established in 1956. Construction of the large sawmill began in 1962, and it was completed in 1964, introducing advanced logging and milling technologies, creating a model forestry industry in Taiwan. Using mechanical logging and trucks for transportation greatly increased efficiency and output. The large sawmill was inaugurated on May 26, 1964, and enjoyed nearly ten years of glorious operation. However, due to American saw equipment not being suitable for domestically sourced timber, the amount of timber wastage was significant, leading to the premature cessation of forestry production activities in the Dasyueshan Forest Area, and operations were halted at the end of December 1973.
