East Gate Introduction
Dadong Gate is located at the intersection of Dongmen Road and Shengli Road, serving as a very important transportation route in the city. The Dadong Gate has become a landmark in Tainan, forming a roundabout. The eastern side of the gate is inscribed with "Dong'an Gate," while the western side features "Yingchun Gate." The city gate is well-maintained, and the shooting openings used to defend the city are still intact. At night, when the lights are on, it resembles a grand triumphal arch of Tainan. Due to its central location within the roundabout, fewer tourists enter the area. Inside the gate, there is a precious and interesting stone tablet erected in 1848, which primarily states: "It is forbidden for soldiers to extort farmers and vendors passing through this city." This is a very valuable and intriguing tablet within Dadong Gate. Next time you pass by, don't rush, take a moment to explore the main thoroughfare that people from the former capital used to enter and exit.
