Old College of Liberal Arts and Dacheng Hall, National Cheng Kung University (Former Imperial Japanese Army 2nd Infantry Regiment Barracks) Introduction
Walking on the campus of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) is a happiness at any time. The elegant architecture of the Koxinga campus, with its antiquated charm, always relaxes people's moods. The former barracks of the Second Battalion of the Imperial Japanese Army is located right across from the well-known Banyan Garden. It is currently used by the Department of History (College of Liberal Arts) and the Department of Industrial Design (Dacheng Hall), among others. This is one of the very few military buildings that have been preserved from the Japanese occupation period, where the Second Battalion stationed in Tainan resided at that time. The barracks were designed by the Construction Section of the Imperial Army's Managers Division, featuring a Roman-style porch and columns common at that time, with a stable and grand style. It now serves as a classroom for university students to study and research, and is also a popular walking spot for many locals and tourists on weekends. It is additionally a favorite location for photography and cosplay among many photographers and influencers.
