Martyr's Shrine Introduction
There are many temples in Lieyu, and the Lieyu Goddess Temple is one of the most notable ones! The Lieyu Goddess Temple is located in Qingqi Village at the southwestern tip of Lieyu, and it is also known as the Wang Xian Gu Temple. The temple was originally named "Chastity Shrine" and honors Wang Xian Gu, who was originally named Wang Yulan, a native of Xiamen. According to legend, one day, Princess Wang went to the seaside to collect shellfish and was tragically molested and drowned in the sea. The next day, her body washed ashore at Guishan Beach in Lieyu, where it was discovered and buried by a Liu surname soldier from the local coastal defense troops. Later, Wang Yulan appeared in a dream to explain her ordeal. The stationed soldiers and villagers were deeply moved upon hearing her story, and in 1956, they pooled resources to build a temple for her with the help of the 81st Army Division stationed in Lieyu. The temple became a source of solace for the troops and local villagers. The Lieyu Goddess Temple enjoys great popularity and has been known to answer prayers. After renovations and expansions, it now has its present scale and has become a famous tourist attraction in Lieyu, attracting many visitors who come to pay their respects and make wishes. If your wishes come true, remember to return and express your gratitude!
