L18 Base Introduction
Located on the southwest side of Lieyu Township, the L18 outpost was established in 1987 by the stationed 158th Brigade and completed the following year. The architecture was inspired by innovative designs commonly used by the U.S. military after the Vietnam War, but the actual inspiration came from the "Pheonix" in the animated series "Scientific Expedition". Since L18 is situated between the Guishan and Shaxikou military areas, it served as an important point for firepower acquisition on Lieyu Island during the confrontation period across the Taiwan Strait. As a result, the overall firepower within the camp is stronger than that of typical coastal defense outposts. The main bunker features 16 machine gun emplacements, while the M24A1 tank bunkers on both sides are the primary sources of the stronghold's firepower. Inside the L18 outpost, one can see the earlier deployed machine gun ports, accompanied by faded motivational slogans nearby. The nostalgic atmosphere makes it a must-visit photo spot for photography enthusiasts. Additionally, the coastline next to the fortress is a great place to relax and enjoy the waves. When the sun sets, the beautiful scenery of the sunset along with the distant view of Xiamen City creates a picturesque scene worth stopping to admire.
