Hongtu Gully Camp L-36 Location Introduction
L-36 outpost is located on the northwest corner of the round-the-island cycling path in Lieyu Township. Due to its position in a dip along the red soil coast, it is also known as "Hóngtǔ Gōu Sān Yíngqū" (Red Soil Ditch Third Campsite). The outpost features many life-size soldier statues, including soldiers participating in drills and classes as well as those practicing pull-ups and shooting in a prone position. There is also a guarding dog on top of the bunker, providing visitors with fun photo opportunities. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Xiamen and Shiyu from here. Next to the outpost is Cat Public Rock Beach, covered in railway tracks, making it a convenient recreational spot for the public. During the standoff between the two sides, the military assessed that the beach near the L-36 outpost was a potential landing site for enemy troops. To prevent enemy incursions during high tide, the military set up a series of defensive fortifications here. The outpost includes barracks for officers and soldiers and an ammunition depot, as well as ten defensive positions for rifles and machine guns to control the beach. Above the structure, there is an observation deck and several temporary firing positions. Having left behind its military past, the L-36 outpost has now become a well-developed tourist site. On sunny days, visitors can also see the popular slogan "One Country, Two Systems, Unified China" in Xiamen city. Furthermore, the L-36 outpost is the closest place to Shiyu, so don’t forget to take a look at Shiyu and the slogan with binoculars when you visit!
