Red Earth Trench Camp L-36 Base Introduction
The L-36 Outpost is located on the northwest corner of the cycling path around Lieyu Township, also known as "Hongtu Gou Sanyingqu" due to its location in a depression of the red clay coast. The outpost is adorned with numerous life-sized soldier statues, depicting soldiers in various activities such as drills, exercising on pull-up bars, and practicing shooting in a prone position. Above the bunker, there is a guard dog that allows tourists to take amusing photos with it. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a view of Xiamen and Shiyu from this point. Next to the outpost is the Cat Gong Stone Beach, which is covered with railings and serves as a recreational spot for the public. During the standoff period across the strait, the military assessed that the beach where the L-36 Outpost is situated could be a landing point for enemy forces. Therefore, to prevent enemy attacks during high tide, the military set up a line of defensive fortifications here. The outpost includes barracks and an ammunition depot and is equipped with ten firing ports for rifles and machine guns to meet coastal control needs. Moreover, there is an observation deck and several temporary firing ports above the structure. Moving away from its military past, the L-36 Outpost has now become a well-developed tourist attraction. On clear days, visitors can also see the popular slogan "One Country, Two Systems, Unified China" in the urban area of Xiamen. Furthermore, the L-36 Outpost is the closest point to Shiyu, so when visiting, don't forget to use binoculars to take a look at Shiyu and the slogan, two special sights!
