Heritage Market Introduction
Exploring the market is a little joy during travel. Every weekend and holiday, the open space in front of the old Guanxi police station transforms into the "Heritage Market." Currently, there are six permanent stalls, and the vendors are mostly residents or small farmers from the area. The market offers products such as handmade soap, Hakka rice dishes, coffee, vegetarian snacks, honey, and bitter tea oil, as well as handmade wooden crafts, each stall showcasing its own unique character. One stall selling handmade soap and vegetables is run by a retired couple who returned to their hometown; the wife enjoys handmade courses and learned to make natural soap, while the husband, who values food safety, became a small farmer growing vegetables using a no-spray approach with no agricultural or chemical fertilizers to produce non-toxic fruits and vegetables. Another stall, "Rice Dish Mom," offers a variety of traditional Hakka rice dishes, including radish cake, wormwood cake, Hakka rice dumplings, sweet cakes, and savory cakes, all rich in authentic Hakka flavors. In addition to handmade soap and Hakka rice dishes, there are also Hakka moms' homemade braised dishes and side dishes, pickles, and dried radish, among other agricultural specialty products. Coffee lovers can try the local coffee produced by the Guanxi Mawudu Coffee Cooperative. The coffee beans from the Mawudu mountainous area are roasted to a degree between light and medium roast, featuring not only the flavors of the coffee itself but also layers of aftertaste with hints of longan, plum, maltose, and almond.
