Tea Experiment Station - Yu-Chi Branch Introduction
The Tea Improvement Station Yuchi Branch's tea factory is located southeast of Maolan Mountain in Yuchi Township. It was established in 1936 during the Japanese occupation (Showa 11). The tea factory on the premises was built in 1938 (Showa 13) and was originally named the Red Tea Experimental Station, affiliated with the Central Research Institute of the Taiwan Governor's Office, serving as the research center for the Daba Tea variety of red tea in Taiwan. After Taiwan's retrocession in 1945, the Yuchi Red Tea Experimental Station was transferred to the Agricultural Department of the Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute. In December 1947, it was merged into the Taiwan Agricultural Company’s Tea Branch and renamed the Taiwan Tea Experiment Station the following year. In April 1955, it became part of the Taiwan Provincial Agricultural Research Institute and was referred to as the Yuchi Tea Experiment Branch. In May 1968, it merged with the Pingzhen Tea Experiment Station and the Agricultural Department’s Tea Training Institute to become the Yuchi Branch under the Taiwan Provincial Tea Improvement Station. In July 1999, it was renamed the Tea Improvement Station Yuchi Branch under the Council of Agriculture of the Executive Yuan.
