Tea Experiment Station - Yuchi Branch Introduction
The Tea Improvement Station's Yuchi Branch, located southeast of Maolan Mountain in Yuchi Township, was established in the 11th year of the Shōwa era (1936). The tea factory on-site was constructed in the 13th year of the Shōwa era (1938) and was originally named the Black Tea Experiment Substation, under the Central Research Institute of the Governor-General of Taiwan. It served as the research center for Taiwanese Dayeh black tea. After the Republic of China regained control of Taiwan in 1945, the Yuchi Black Tea Experiment Substation was transferred to the Agricultural and Forestry Department of the Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute. In December of 1947, it was merged into the Tea Branch of the Taiwan Agricultural Company, and the following year it was renamed the Taiwan Tea Experiment Institute. In April 1955, it was affiliated with the Taiwan Provincial Agricultural Research Institute as the Yuchi Tea Experiment Substation. In May 1968, it merged with the Pingzhen Tea Institute and the Agricultural and Forestry Department's Tea Training Institute to become the Yuchi Branch of the Taiwan Provincial Tea Improvement Station under the Agricultural and Forestry Department. In July 1999, it was renamed the Yuchi Branch of the Tea Improvement Station under the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan.
