Ita Thao, Sun Moon Lake Introduction
Ita Thao, formerly known as "Tehua Society" and "Huafan Society," is primarily inhabited by the Thao people and is the most populated village near Sun Moon Lake. President Chiang Kai-shek once loved to paddle here to enjoy the Thao people's mountain songs and dances, which made this area an important indigenous cultural zone in Sun Moon Lake. Today, Ita Thao is home to the Thao, Atayal, and Han people, featuring art shops, restaurants, and hotels. Around August 15th each year, the Thao community holds a grand festival, during which all members of the tribe participate. Visitors who choose to come at this time can immerse themselves in the charming culture of the Thao people. Additionally, Ita Thao serves as a trailhead for Mount Shueshan.
