Sun Moon Lake Ita Thao Introduction
Ita Thao, formerly known as "Tehua" and "Huafan," is primarily inhabited by the Thao people and is the most populated village near Sun Moon Lake. President Chiang Kai-shek often enjoyed boating here to admire the songs and dances of the Thao people, which helped make the area an important indigenous cultural park at Sun Moon Lake. Today, Ita Thao is home to a mix of Thao, Atayal, and Han people, featuring art shops, restaurants, and accommodations. Every year around August 15, the Thao community holds a grand festival where all members participate. Visitors who choose to come during this time will be able to fully experience the enchanting culture of the Thao people. Additionally, Ita Thao serves as the trailhead for Mount Shuishe.
