Sun Moon Lake, Ita Thao Introduction
Ita Thao, formerly known as Dehua Community and Huafan Community, is primarily inhabited by the Thao people and is the most populous village by Sun Moon Lake. President Chiang Kai-shek used to enjoy boating here to appreciate the singing and dancing of the Thao people, which led to the community becoming an important cultural area for indigenous peoples at Sun Moon Lake. Today, Ita Thao is home to the Thao, Atayal, and Han ethnic groups, featuring craft shops, restaurants, and hotels. Around August 15th of each year, the Thao community holds a grand festival, where the whole tribe participates. Visitors who choose to come during this time will be able to experience the charming culture of the Thao people. In addition, Ita Thao is also the trailhead for Mount Shuishe.
