Ita Thao, Sun Moon Lake Introduction
Itadiao, formerly known as "Dehua Society" and "Huafan Society," is primarily inhabited by the Thao people and is the most populated village by Sun Moon Lake. President Chiang Kai-shek often enjoyed boating here to appreciate the traditional mountain songs and dances of the Thao, making this area an important indigenous cultural park at Sun Moon Lake. Currently, Itadiao is home to the Thao, Atayal, and Han ethnic groups, with various craft shops, restaurants, and inns in the village. Every year around August 15, the Thao people hold grand ceremonies where the entire tribe participates. Visitors who come during this time can immerse themselves in the charming culture of the Thao. Additionally, Itadiao is also the trailhead for climbing Mount Shueshe.
