Bai Cangyi Introduction
Author's Statement: There is an ancient saying: "Rotten wood cannot be carved." As a child, I collected rotten wood in the deep mountains and fields. After careful observation, I found that rotten wood could become a unique art form, embodying the beauty of traditional simplicity while also possessing a modern artistic flair. The saying "rotten wood cannot be carved" has no validity for me; while others consider rotten wood to be trash, I view it as treasure. The rooftop of my home is my treasure trove of rotten wood, and any piece I pick up can become a unique celestial sculpture. Everyone has their own aesthetic perspective; by treating uniquely shaped rotten wood with high-pressure water treatment, it transforms into an art piece sculpted by nature—this is my unique insight. My insistence on art is to utilize rotten wood without carving it with a single tool.
