Douliu Nansheng Temple Introduction
The largest wooden statue of Guan Yu in Taiwan is located at the Nansheng Temple, originally named Cixiutang. It belongs to the Luan Tang system of the Fubi Jishi community and primarily enshrines five deities: Guan Di, Lü Zu, Zao Jun, Yue Wang, and Wang Ling Guan. Devotees respectfully refer to them as the Five Holy Benefactors. The statue of Guan Laoye, which is housed in the temple, is carved from camphor wood, standing 3.6 meters tall and weighing over 600 kilograms, making it a rare sight in Taiwan. Nansheng Temple was established with an old site dating back to the 50th year of the Republic of China, and in 1977 it was relocated to its current location. It enshrines the "Guan Laoye," which was carved 500 years ago and drifted to Taiwan from the sea. Upholding Confucian principles, it educates the masses, guiding them on a path of self-cultivation and moral development. Photo of the Guan Yu statue at Nansheng Temple by Hsueh Ying-Chi.
