Suogang Fishing Port Introduction
Located in Suogang Village, Magong City, Penghu County, Suogang Fishing Port is a second-class fishing port situated in a natural bay and serves as the central fishing port in the southern part of Magong Island. It was constructed in May 1953 with a 388-meter long riprap breakwater and a 240-meter long wharf, along with a fueling station and a 127-meter seawall. In 1977, it received subsidies from the central government for the completion of dredging and other works on the wharf and anchorage. Suogang Fishing Port is equipped with facilities such as a fueling station, ice storage, a fishing gear sorting area, and an auction house, providing supplies and reducing the travel distance for fishing boats to refuel in Magong, thus serving as an auxiliary port to Magong Harbor. On land, the fishing industry facilities include a fish market, cold storage, an ice factory, a fueling station, and a fishermen's activity center, with comprehensive amenities; however, some catches still need to be transported to Magong Fishing Port for sales. The fish market within Suogang Fishing Port is a well-known fish vendor market in Penghu. Every morning and afternoon, fishing boats go out to catch fish and return to the port to sell, especially during the afternoon fish vendor hours when people from various villages in Penghu come specifically to buy fish. Next to the port is the Ziji Temple, which stands as the tallest temple statue in Penghu, primarily worshipping the Emperor Ziwei. It is clearly visible from the plane, and the statue cost over a hundred million NT dollars and took ten years to complete; the temple is seven stories high and is a must-see attraction when visiting Suogang in Penghu. Nearby are also the North and South Stone Towers of Suogang, erected by the ancestors to ward off wind and evil. [Recommended stay time] 1 hour
