Fengshi Tower, Suo'ang Township Introduction
Penghu is known for its strong winds and harsh climate, which pose great threats to life. To combat the harsh environment, many protective objects, such as stone towers, have been erected for wind protection and to ward off evil. The Lock Port Stone Towers consist of two parts: the South Tower (Wu Tower) and the North Tower (Zi Tower), located north of the old settlement. Standing nearly three stories high, the site of the stone towers was originally a small elevated hill, which served as a support for the local community. However, due to the strong northeast monsoon, this hill gradually disappeared, leading to the local saying, "The Lock Port lost a mountain, and the Pig Mother Water lost a bay," which describes how the sand dunes of the community were blown to the harbor of Pig Mother Water. To compensate for the disappearance of this support, two large stone towers were erected on the original site to mitigate the destruction caused by the changes in feng shui. Originally built of black stone, the structures were rebuilt in the 51st year of the Republic of China using black stone cement materials (made from basalt and cement). The base area of the first layer is about 66 square meters. Originally a seven-tiered stone guardian, after the reconstruction in the 51st year of the Republic of China, it was changed to nine tiers, making it the tallest stone tower in all of Penghu, standing approximately 14 meters high. 【Suggested duration of stay】 1 hour.
