Fengshi Tower, SuoGang Township Introduction
Penghu is characterized by strong winds and harsh weather, posing significant threats to life. To combat this harsh environment, many protective objects, such as stone towers, have been erected to ward off the wind and spirits. The Lock Port Stone Towers consist of two structures: the South Tower (Wu Tower) and the North Tower (Zi Tower), located to the north of the old settlement. They stand nearly three stories tall. The site of the stone towers was originally a small elevated hill, serving as a support for the local community. However, due to the forces of the strong northeast monsoon, it gradually disappeared, leading to a local saying: "Lock Port carried away a mountain, and Zhu Mu Shui carried away a bay," indicating that the dunes of the community were blown to the port of Zhu Mu Shui (Mountain Water). As a result, two large stone towers were built at the original site to compensate for the loss of the nearby mountain and the damage done to the Feng Shui. Originally constructed with black stones, they were rebuilt in 1962 using black stone and concrete materials (made from basalt, cement, and stacked). The footprint of the first level is approximately 66 square meters. Originally a seven-tier pagoda-style structure, it was reconstructed into a nine-tier design in 1962, making it the tallest stone tower in all of Penghu at around 14 meters high. [Recommended time to stay] 1 hour.
