Makung Guanyin Pavilion Leisure Park Introduction
Guanyin Pavilion is the premier ancient temple in Penghu, located next to the Youth Activity Center. From the front of the temple, one can enjoy a distant view of the sunset over Xiyu, featuring an excellent landscape. It has been praised as "a vast view of misty waves in all directions, quite serene and spacious" in the historical records of Penghu County dating back 400 years, and is known as "the scenic area of Xiying." It is renowned for the beauty of "Guanyin Evening Glow." Guanyin Pavilion was first built in the 35th year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1696), primarily dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva. To the left of Guanyin Pavilion is the famous Wangchao Pavilion, along with Haijiao Pavilion and Huai’en Pavilion, which are located at the bottom right of Jieshou Pavilion and directly in front of the beach area, all of which are part of the "Four Pavilions by the Sea" in the scenic area of Xiying. Standing on Jieshou Pavilion allows one to overlook the beautiful sunset on Xiyu, while Wangchao Pavilion provides a distant view of the ebb and flow of the Taiwan Strait. Dolphin Pavilion symbolizes the dolphins found along the shores of Penghu, and Huai’en Pavilion was built in memory of the late President Chiang Kai-shek. Below Guanyin Pavilion, there is a tranquil central sea area, shielded by a breakwater, which has become a natural swimming beach, ideal for swimming and water play. Currently, a waterfront recreation area, an international windsurfing competition center, a children's playground, biking and jogging paths, a basketball court, and a skating rink have been newly established around Guanyin Pavilion, making it the most beautiful landmark in Penghu and a great place for sports and leisure. In the early morning and late afternoon, it is the first choice for residents of Magong for relaxation and exercise. Xiying Rainbow Bridge is the venue for the Penghu Ocean Fireworks Festival, where visitors can come on the night of the event to enjoy the stunning view of the rainbow bridge along with the fireworks from the shores near Guanyin Pavilion and Dolphin Pavilion.
