Xingtian Temple Beitou Branch_ Zhongyi Temple Introduction
Xingtian Temple Beitou Branch, commonly known as "Zhongyi Temple," is dedicated to the worship of Guan Sheng Emperor (Guandi). It is located at No. 50, Alley 18, Section 4, Zhongyang North Road, Beitou District, Taipei City. This branch temple, affiliated with the highly popular Xingtian Temple on Minquan East Road in Taipei, has an earlier history than the main temple. The names of the former Taiwan Railway "Zhongyi Station" and the current MRT "Zhongyi Station" are derived from its proximity to the "Zhongyi Temple." The "Guandi Temple Xingtian Temple," previously known as the "Jiu Tai Street Enzhu Gong Temple" by devotees, was originally located near Xin Hsing Junior High School in today's Zhongshan District, Taipei City. Due to the booming prayers at "Guandi Temple Xingtian Temple," the land was later designated for school use, prompting the temple management to seek a new site for relocation. Eventually, in 1956, an auspicious site was found in Beitou at a place called Halao Bie (now Zhongyi Mountain). The project was funded by the builder of the temple's three halls, Master Xuankong, and was completed and celebrated on May 31, 1965, showcasing a grand architectural style with three halls. The Beitou Xingtian Temple covers approximately 8 hectares, with magnificent temple structures. In addition to a library, the area is rich in natural ecology, featuring well-planned facilities such as pathways, garden landscapes, resting pavilions, parking lots, and public restrooms. It also serves as the starting point for the Zhongyi Mountain Hiking Trail, planned by the city government. As visitors ascend the stairs from the foot of the mountain, they are first greeted by a vast green meadow, landscaped gardens, and a palm tree avenue. Continuing up the steps and passing through the Sun and Moon Gate, one arrives at the spacious front hall of the Beitou Branch Temple. The courtyard is quite expansive, and the interplay of red walls and gray stone floors creates a serene atmosphere under the blue sky. Passing through the mountain gate, one can admire the elegant Jade Emperor Hall and the Bell and Drum Tower, showcasing the beauty of magnificent architecture. After worshipping at the Jade Emperor Hall, the rear hall, and the San Yuan Hall, visitors can head towards the back mountain to experience the tranquil beauty of nature. Strolling along the shaded pathways of lush trees, visitors may gaze at the tall bamboo or the weathered rocks, enhancing the serene scenes. Ascending the 800 steps on the right side offers stunning views of the Guandu Plain and the Tamsui River, providing a broad and refreshing vista, making it an ideal spot for travel and spiritual reflection along the North Tamsui Line.
