Xingtian Temple Beitou Branch_ Zhongyi Temple Introduction
Xingtian Temple Beitou Branch, commonly known as the "Zhongyi Temple," is dedicated to the worship of Guansheng Dijun and is located at No. 50, Lane 18, Section 4, Zhongyang North Road, Beitou District, Taipei City. This branch temple of Xingtian Temple, which is famous for its bustling incense offerings on Mingquan East Road in Taipei, has a history older than the main temple in Taipei. The name of the original Taiwan Railway "Zhongyi Station" and the current MRT "Zhongyi Station" is derived from its proximity to the "Zhongyi Temple." "Guandi Temple Xingtian Temple," which was once familiar to devotees as the "Jiutai Street Enzhu Gong Temple," was originally located near the current Xin-xing Junior High School in Zhongshan District, Taipei City. Due to the thriving incense offerings at "Guandi Temple Xingtian Temple," the temple had to actively seek a new site for relocation when the original temple grounds were designated for school use. As a result, in 1956, a suitable site was found in Beitou, commonly known as Laobiel (today's Zhongyi Mountain), where construction was funded by Master Xuankong, one of the founders of Xingtian Temple. The temple was completed on May 31, 1965, showcasing a grand three-hall architectural layout. The entire area of Beitou Xingtian Temple covers about 8 hectares, featuring majestic temple buildings, a library, lush greenery, rich natural ecology, well-planned trails, garden landscapes, pavilions for rest, parking lots, and public restrooms. It serves as the starting point for the Zhongyi Mountain Trail planned by the city government. Following the steps from the foot of the mountain, visitors are first greeted by a wide expanse of green grass, garden landscaping, and the Coconut Palm Avenue. Ascending the steps further and passing through the Sun and Moon Gate leads to the spacious front hall of the Beitou Branch. The temple courtyard is very spacious, with red walls and gray stone paving, creating a peaceful atmosphere under the blue sky. Through the mountain gate, one can see the elegant Jade Emperor Hall and the Bell and Drum Tower, exhibiting the beauty of magnificent architecture. After visiting the Jade Emperor Hall, the rear hall, and the San Yuan Hall, heading toward the back mountain allows one to further appreciate the serene beauty of nature. Strolling along the shady pathways with dense trees, gazing up at the towering bamboo or the ancient, weathered rocks enhances the feeling of tranquility. Climbing the 800 steps on the right side offers a panoramic view of the Guandu Plain and the Tamsui River, providing a wide and refreshing vista, making it an excellent spot for exploring and rejuvenating the spirit along the Beitao Line.
