Xingtian Temple Beitou Branch_ Zhongyi Temple Introduction

Xingtian Temple Beitou Branch, commonly known as "Zhongyi Temple," is dedicated to Guan Sheng Di Jun and is located at No. 50, Lane 18, Section 4, Zhongyang North Road, Beitou District, Taipei City. It is a branch of Xingtian Temple on Minquan East Road, which has a thriving incense offering. However, the history of this temple predates the main temple in Taipei. The names of the original Taiwan Railway "Zhongyi Station" and the current MRT "Zhongyi Station" are derived from its proximity to the "Zhongyi Temple." "Guan Di Miao Xingtian Temple," once known to devotees as "Jiu Tai Street Enzhu Gong Temple," was originally located near the current Xin Xing Junior High School in Zhongshan District, Taipei City. Due to the increase in the number of devotees, the temple had to actively seek a new location after the land was designated for educational use, resulting in the discovery of a suitable site in Beitou (now known as Zhongyi Mountain) in 1956. The construction was funded by Xingtian Temple's builder, Master Xuan Kong, and was completed on May 31, 1965, showcasing a grand three-hall layout. The Beitou Xingtian Temple complex covers approximately 8 hectares, with magnificent temple buildings. In addition to an attached library, the area is rich in greenery and natural ecology, with well-planned pathways, garden landscaping, rest areas, parking lots, and public restrooms. It also serves as the starting point for the Zhongyi Mountain trail planned by the city government. Ascending the steps from the foot of the mountain, one first encounters a vast green grassy area with landscaped gardens and a coconut palm avenue. Continuing up the steps and passing through the Sun and Moon Gates leads to the spacious front hall of the Beitou Branch Temple. The courtyard is quite expansive, with red walls and gray stone floors creating a peaceful atmosphere under the blue sky. Passing through the mountain gate, one can see the elegant Jade Emperor Hall and the Bell and Drum Tower, showcasing the beauty of majestic architecture. After worshipping at the Jade Emperor Hall, the rear hall, and the Three Yuan Hall, heading toward the rear mountain area allows one to experience the tranquility of natural beauty. Strolling along the wooded paths, one can gaze at the dense bamboo or admire the weathered rocks, enhancing the perception of a serene landscape. Taking the 800 steps on the right side offers a distant view of Guandu Plain and Tamsui River, providing a broad and refreshing outlook, making it an ideal spot for tourism and a retreat for the soul along the Beitao Line.
