Guandu Golden Waterway Biking Trail Introduction
Before the Keelung River flows into the Tamsui River, it creates a beautiful curve around Shezi Island. On its northern bank and the western area of the Huan Harbor Stream, there remains a precious rice paddy that is part of metropolitan Taipei, connecting to the mangrove natural reserve at the river mouth. This allows visitors to briefly escape the hustle and bustle while cycling through, feeling the simple and grounded rural atmosphere reminiscent of the early days. Strolling along the embankment during sunset, with a gentle river breeze and the sound of chirping birds, the Guandu Nature Reserve is full of life, offering a unique romantic and leisurely wild charm. The bike path traversing the Guandu Plain is an unobstructed route, with the western endpoint at Guandu Temple. Heading east along the Guandu tidal embankment to the Baxian Fude Temple, the path then turns 90 degrees north, crossing the Guandu Plain until reaching the south side of the Beitou Central North Road MRT track, eventually leading out to Daoxiang Road west of the Political Warfare School. For visitors unable to bring their own bicycles, starting at Guandu Temple is more convenient, as it is close to the MRT station and bicycles or tandem bikes can be rented there. The former stalls along the river embankment at Guandu Temple have completely been removed, replaced with accessible pedestrian pathways. The fishing boats that used to dock alongside the small bridge over the Zhonggang River have also been relocated to the Tamsui River, resulting in a refreshing appearance of the waters, even though the nostalgic atmosphere of fishing boats has diminished.
