Xue-Xue Foundation Introduction
The origin of the establishment of the Learning Culture and Creative Foundation came from the realization of the social desire for a "Cultural and Creative Learning Platform" during Taiwan's transformation of cultural thought and economic industry. Inspired by this, the chairman of the Shih Lien Group, Lin Po-Shih, and his wife, Hsu Li-Ling, initiated the founding of "Learning." In September 2005, they gathered elites from Taiwan's cultural and creative industry and academia to establish Learning, which centers on "culture" and "creativity," and includes "education," "research," "exhibition," "consultation," and "development" as its business contents. It builds a bridge for learning and communication among the fields of art, design, philosophy, technology, and the economic community. The cross-disciplinary exchanges it offers will impact the future of young people! This is the context in which Learning was established: from both the life and work aspects, people urgently need a rich and nourishing ability for cultural perception—experiences in culture and aesthetics, while enterprises also begin to learn how to utilize "cultural capital" to find creative business opportunities. The name "Learning" comes from the most ancient Eastern simple ethical thought, referenced in "The Book of Rites," in the section of "Learning Records": "Though there are fine dishes, without tasting them, one does not know their flavor; though there are ultimate ways, without learning, one does not know their goodness. Therefore, one learns to know one's inadequacies, and teaches to know one's difficulties; knowing inadequacies allows for self-reflection, and knowing difficulties enables one to strive for improvement. Hence, it is said that teaching and learning benefit each other; it is named that 'Learning is half of knowledge.'" "Learning" signifies: "Teaching and learning each occupy half of knowledge." Learning envisions that each student in every classroom could be a teacher in another classroom; conversely, each teacher in every classroom could be a student in another classroom, facilitating mutual learning, acquaintanceships, and cross-industry collaborations, which aligns with the immense demand for "cross-industry added value" driven by the cultural and creative industry in Taiwan's employment market during its industrial transformation. The philosophy of Learning is not just to provide cultural and creative learning, but also to offer diverse inspirations through art and design exhibitions, aiming to share the journeys and reflections of artists and designers. These experiences and creative thoughts are integrated within Learning's space, capable of stirring endless imagination and reflection in people, encouraging them to learn from teachers in different fields and engage in dialogues with art and design. Through the intersection and insights gained from cross-disciplinary interactions, one can achieve flashes of inspiration and creativity!
