Shueiah Cultural and Creative Foundation Introduction
The origin of the establishment of the Learning and Creation Cultural and Creative Foundation is inspired by the society's desire for a "cultural and creative learning platform" during the transformation process of Taiwan's cultural thinking and economic industry. Inspired by this, Lin Bo-shih and Xu Li-ling, the couple behind the Shih-Lien Group, decided to establish "Learning and Creation." In September 2005, they gathered elites from Taiwan's cultural and creative industry and academia to jointly establish the foundation, which is centered on the core values of "culture" and "creativity" and focuses on "education," "research," "exhibitions," "consulting," and "incubation." It aims to build a bridge for learning and communication among the communities of art, design, philosophy, technology, and economics. The cross-disciplinary exchange it provides will have an impact on the future of young people! This reflects the era in which Learning and Creation was established: from both life and work perspectives, there is an urgent need for rich and nurturing cultural sensory ability — experiences of culture and aesthetics, and enterprises are also beginning to learn how to utilize "cultural capital" to seek creative business opportunities within culture. The name "Learning and Creation" is derived from the age-old Eastern simple humanistic thought, specifically a quote from the "Records of Rites" (Liji) in the "Learning Record" chapter: "Even with exquisite dishes, if one does not eat, one does not know their taste; even with profound doctrines, if one does not learn, one does not know their goodness. Therefore, through learning, one learns of one’s insufficiencies; through teaching, one learns of one’s difficulties; knowing one’s insufficiencies allows for self-reflection; knowing one’s difficulties enables self-improvement. Hence, it is said that teaching and learning foster each other, as the saying goes, ‘Learning and Creation is half’." "Learning and Creation" signifies: "Teaching and learning each account for half of knowledge." Learning and Creation envisions that every student in each classroom may be a teacher in another classroom; and every teacher in each classroom may also be a student in another classroom. The mutual learning, networking, and cross-industry collaboration among students and teachers respond to the immense demand for "cross-industry value addition" in the job market amid Taiwan's industrial transformation aided by the cultural and creative industries. The philosophy of Learning and Creation is not only to provide cultural and creative learning but also to offer diverse inspirations from art and design exhibitions, aiming to share the thoughts and reflections of artists and designers. These experiences and creative ideas are integrated within Learning and Creation's space, triggering people's limitless imagination and reflection, encouraging individuals to learn from teachers in different fields, and to engage in dialogues with art and design. Through the encounters and insights gained from cross-disciplinary interactions, one can experience flashes of creative inspiration!
