National Taiwan University Hospital, West Branch Introduction
National Taiwan University Hospital was established during the Japanese rule and was formerly known as Taipei Hospital, Taiwan Governor-General's Taipei Hospital, and Taipei Imperial University Hospital's affiliated hospital. After the war, it was renamed National Taiwan University Hospital affiliated with the College of Medicine. It is the core of modern medical development in Taiwan. The building in the western campus currently serves outpatient and some ward functions. Designed by Mr. Kondo Juro, this Renaissance-style structure is a two-story red brick and reinforced concrete building, featuring a symmetrically arranged layout with a central corridor connecting various outpatient departments and wards. The hall is grand and luxurious, with a spacious interior that utilizes many Western architectural techniques, making it a masterpiece of modern Western-style architecture and, at the time, the largest and most modern hospital in Southeast Asia.
