National Taiwan University Hospital, West Branch Introduction

National Taiwan University Hospital was established during the Japanese colonial period, formerly known as Taipei Hospital, Taiwan Governor-General's Taipei Hospital, and the affiliated hospital of the Taipei Imperial University Medical School. After the war, it was renamed the National Taiwan University Hospital, which is at the core of modern medical development in Taiwan. The western campus buildings are currently used for outpatient services and some wards. This building was designed by Juro Kondo and is a two-story structure made of red brick reinforced concrete in the Renaissance style. The layout features a symmetrical design with a central corridor connecting various outpatient departments and wards. The lobby is solemn and magnificent, with spacious areas utilizing many Western architectural techniques. It is a masterpiece of modern Western architecture and was the largest and most modern hospital in Southeast Asia at the time.
