Taishin Bank Foundation for Arts and Culture Introduction
A stable, creative, and vibrant cultural society is undoubtedly the best premise for companies to maintain consistency and progress. In light of this, Mr. Wu Dong-liang, the leader of Taishin Financial Holding Co., established the "Taishin Bank Cultural and Arts Foundation" in May 2001, with the founding mission of "enhancing the quality of cultural life and promoting a sound environment for artistic development." The foundation aspires to embody the spirit of "sowing, nurturing, and sharing," fulfilling the social responsibility and cultural mission of private enterprises. The foundation positions itself as a supporter and sponsor of professional art and cultural activities, looking ahead to the diverse and rapidly developing social trends of the 21st century, where globalization and localization progress in parallel. Its primary goal is to promote contemporary Taiwanese art and culture, dedicated to observing, critiquing, and supporting local art. In addition to assisting Taiwanese contemporary art to shine as a beacon of global creative culture, it hopes to infuse people's lives with more creative vigor and imaginative sensibility through the promotion of art. The "Taishin Art Award," established in 2002, is central to the foundation's activities, encompassing visual arts, performing arts, and interdisciplinary art activities. Its proactive nomination and interdisciplinary selection mechanism is a first in the country. To balance the breadth, depth, and international visibility of this award, dedicated nominators are set up during the nomination process, facilitating interactive discussions and interdisciplinary dialogues, while establishing channels for public discussion through the ARTalks website. Influential international cultural figures are then invited to participate in the final selection; in building this domestic art crown, the foundation aims to continually introduce outstanding artistic creations with innovative perspectives to the public. Through rigorous critique and related promotional education activities, it responds to the notion that art itself is not defined by awards or ultimate outcomes. The Taishin Art Award reflects Taiwan's multicultural landscape, resonating outstanding works with society once again, while the foundation hopes to serve as a competent bridge for communication and crossing between artists and the public, as well as a messenger for businesses giving back to society.
